But now, they've left it (or maybe they're telling us so) and they're creating good softwares. I was going to vote them for a 4, but I clicked on 5 because of their .NET framework, cross-platform development and Visual Studio - best IDE.
Oh my. Even though I have professionally developed software on windows for 18+ years I have just the opposite feelings for what Microsoft is doing today. I pretty much hate every thing that they are doing in the last few years.

Yes, I agree. But after a while, there softwares are once again better. Maybe because they're again started to listen to their customers.

I don't use Apple at all - They're overrated, overpriced and the user experience is terrible, at least for me.
I'm almost forced to use Google due to Gmail being my most stable email address ever, also it is well known and the web interface is passable.
Microsoft sucks 70% of the time, but there are niches of products well made, enough to cover for all of them. VS 2008 and Office 2010 for example.

If you don't use Apple at all, how can you say the user experience is terrible?
I use Microsoft and Apple software and it really depends on what piece of software you're talking about. I think OSX is better than Windows, Visual Studio is better than XCode and Excel is better than Numbers.
But generally Microsoft is a mess - they try to do too much and end up with software bloat, often including things that don't work very well (SharePoint, Forefront, Metro, etc). Apple tend to be more minimalistic - you often end up with "complete" software rather than Microsoft's 85% software

I had to use them 6 month at work and got totally crazy - the kind of frothing-from-the-mouth-holding-dangerous-tools kind of crazy I also loaned an i-Phone 4 for about 2 months from a generous friend of mine and history repated itself.

I always like doing something new - I used to do C and occasionally C++ a long time back, but love C#. I'm liking Swift these days, feels a lot like TypeScript (which I also like)

Apple is form over function and MS function over form. I haven't decided about Google, but what they do do they do do well. [really enjoyed that last sentence]

If it wasn't for Lollipop.
On balance, it's a lot poorer than the previous version - I get random reboots, and still get some freezes of I don't clear it's cache often.
As it is it gets a 3, because the other stuff pulls it up pretty well.

I don't know if that's obvious or not, but the first 5.0 version they thrown to the world is said that is not good at all, but that the latest (I don't know which is that one 5.0.2 or so...) it's said that it works much better...
Do you have the latest one?

Yes, I have 5.0.2, and it's worse than 4.4, which was worse than 4.3....

That's crazy...
In fact since the day I switched from Blackberry to Android I'm missing the old one a lot...
There's one thing I truly hate of my S4 phone: it's ultra-slow to transfer files from the computer to the SD card and what is even worse: some files are simply not being transferred or it asks continuously about what to do with file formats which are not recognized by the phone... And the fact that only the internal file explorer that came preinstalled is capable to make things with files in the SDCard is also wonderful... mostly when you want to rename a file extension which that piece of ... is not capable to do...
Yes, that phone works, but after having it for a lot of time, I'm missing the possibility to call contacts by simply writing their names on the physical keyboard, the keyboard shortcuts and being able to use it as a usb external hdd...
But BB is dying or dead or something similar, and the options out there are android or ios... we opted for android and well... it works, more or less.

THis is a funny thing, because "they" always tell us the new version is better than the old and for some reason we (as consumers) believe them. But sometimes the old stuff is just better. I have not had 5 forced upon me yet (still 4.4.4) and now that I've read your experience I'm hoping I don't have to get it on my legacy Nexus 7.
Thanks Griff

How can I rate something that's equally uninteresting, no matter who made it? Obviously I do not belong to the intended group of customers, may it stay that way.
