I used to be under a boss who gave me a daily list of things to be done for a website. I hesitated to add most of those features because they really sound like a bad idea. Usually in the afternoon or next day, he would ask me to cancel those changes.

Hahahaha! I used to have a manager that practiced "Management by Crisis." He would come to me and tell me to drop everything I was working on because of some crisis.
We would talk over the problem and agree to a solution. These solutions would generally take about a week to implement.
Generally two or three days later, he'd come to me and tell me to drop everything to deal with a new crisis. [Repeat]
So I learned not to do anything because he would never let me finish a task before some other hot item would jump up and need to be fixed urgently.
Somehow, he never realized that none of them were ever being fixed.

But something came up, and you'll get round to it later?

Procrastination is merely the result of a deeper defect of mine...
The actual bugger which causes the procrastination is self-centred fear... E.g. I don't like doing that or I'm enjoying doing this so I'll do it later.

Well, talking about a "defect" is probably not the right term - it's rather an instinct (as research shows with animals). It's about Displacement Activity[^]. I observe that we humans have similar "instincts" that let us do other things than we "should", especially if under pressure...! The stay-focussed behavioral pattern is rather a human conditioning by culture... Some are better trained than others to behave against the instinct
