It would most likely be a laptop, no doubt.

Work buys full size laptops and since I use that away from my desk more than anything else that's what I voted for. That said I've got a netbook for personal use and unless something happens that has me spending alot more time away from home (in which case I'll probably get a mid level gaming laptop) I doubt I'll be buying a full size laptop again anytime soon.

Yeah, it must be. You will get more flexibility to use it and even easy to carry. My vote goes for Laptop only.

Some says that tablet (iPad type) will take over. I think it will not happen soon. It might never happen.

Exactly, the easiness which you get over Desktop PC or Laptop will not get in any other smaller devices. Probably later Microsoft Surface may take over, but till now if something is there other than Desktop PC for my portable computer then that is only Laptop. Easy to carry, Easy to handle.

I was using Nokia phones for a while. Recently I changed my mobile to Nexus One (Google Android Phone). Believe me, I used to sit in front of my home PC for hours. But nowadays, I not even switch it on. I feel like I can do anything with this Smart Phone except programming (.NET especially..).

PDAs were OK, uptil some extent but had lots of limitations, SmartPhones are also good but can be used when Laptop or Desktop is not available and cannot carry. But full fledged work computer will be a full power laptop.
Thanks,
Anand.

an iPad is just an overgrown smartphone without the phone.... so I'll leave that for the wife.

I work on the laptop and play on the net book. Once I get my DVD collection fully online my net book will be my main airline buddy for non-business flights.

I don't think a smart phone, pda or an aneroid device as well are not fully supported all the functionalities available in a laptop, So It should be a good choice to use a laptop as a portable device.

When I travel I'm covered for about 90% of the things I need to do through my iPhone.
It kinda shocked me. With the Remote Desktop app available for the iPad I'm up to about 95% without needing a laptop.

As a primary portable machine, the vertical resolution to me is important, nothing worse that trying to work in a 800 high screen, so a high resolution laptop will be my main primary machine.
However, might consider a tablet next (waiting to see what Google or HTC come up with), just for casual browsing etc. while lying in bed etc.
I know one thing for sure.......it wont be a iPad!

I'm curious what all will be out in the next year or two on the tablet front myself. I bought an old fujitsu tablet about a year ago (p3-800, ~2lbs); but it was too heavy to hold for an extended period of time and ended up being little used as a result.
