"Where's the KaBoom? There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering KaBoom."
I used to have that sound file as an alert when I hit a breakpoint.
I’ve given up trying to be calm. However, I am open to feeling slightly less agitated.
I’m begging you for the benefit of everyone, don’t be STUPID.

So my CPU needs to be rebonded to the cooler using "liquid metal" - properly this time because it wasn't done right from factory.
Please accept our apologies for
the repair delays you have experienced. We know how critical it is to
have your Lenovo device repaired as quickly as possible and we
appreciate your continued patience and understanding.
Apparently they can't find liquid metal.
I've got a guy in Florida who has worked on a ton of these Legion laptops. He charges a reasonable amount to redo the thermals on it, and he'll even dial in the processor's clock and voltages for you on your shiny new i9. He can do it all without voiding the warranty, and people are singing his praises on the Legion Discord server.
My current plan is to wait and give Lenovo a chance to do right by me.
This guy in Florida is my plan B.
Not my favorite position to be in - having to go outside official channels to get reliable work done, but I've heard bad things about Lenovo's service techs. Like, they'd be better off working a deep fryer.
I guess as long as they don't destroy it I'll give them a chance, but I may insist on watching them work on it.
Ugh. It's a bad place to be when I'm more inclined to trust "some guy" than Lenovo.

I have heard about fried motherboards caused by service people not used to liquid metal paste, after spilling some in places where it should not be

Yep, and I really hope they don't screw it up, because this particular bit of silicon die is lovely. I've undervolted the caches by 100mV! And it's still stable. That's great. Silicon lottery. Now if it was just bonded correctly my temps would be fantastic.

You're going to trust a Florida Man with your pride and joy?
Given that your portable is still under warranty, I don't see how you can avoid going the official route. The question is why a new portable needs servicing. Apparently Lenovo's QC is not all it should be.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

Yeah, he may strap a gator to it and power it with meth.
The QC I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Everybody makes a bad batch once in awhile. It's what they do about it at the end of the day that is the measure of their product.

Sounds like one of those cases where people say they charge $X for some work, $X*2 to let you watch, and $X*10 to let you help.

It's all part of my warranty service. If they started asking for money my next call would be to Lenovo.
