Because it's "free"?
"Before entering on an understanding, I have meditated for a long time, and have foreseen what might happen. It is not genius which reveals to me suddenly, secretly, what I have to say or to do in a circumstance unexpected by other people; it is reflection, it is meditation." - Napoleon I

Let's take a stand, even if it costs me my account...
... I don't really care about an account here at the moment and have never cared about it before.
Are we all just an unscrupulous bunch and claim that we are only technicians?
Or do we also stand by basic human values?
If Putin strikes with nuclear wapons I hope he will get a full package back.
Sorry
But the situation in Ukraine bothers me!

The situation all over the world - and now in Ukraine - bothers me... And I do take a stand... Not here... There are the place for that...

When you look at my family tree (back to the early 13th century) there is a big wipe-out at WWII... I can not forget it, believe me... I also live in a place where war is every-day happening... I do have my opinion which I express frequently (in Hebrew)... Still not here...

This 13th century idiot survived, prolly due to religion just being politics.
Know you talking wipe out, like me explain money lenders; No catholic can ask for interest, but Jews could, and did. There's a popular game based on it.
Don't go politics.

That's politics; not all members on the same side. Let's not cause a division here.

At which point nobody will be left standing to take a stand.

Are you thinking that if someone with a name of 0x01AA on the Internet 'takes a stand', then the powers-that-be will take notice and act upon it? They will only do what they want and what their advisors say.

If you want, there is an organization run by the Ukrainian military where you can send them financial aid directly.
How to help the Ukrainian Army[^]
This is the English landing page. Choose the "Help the Ukrainian Army" option, click through.
You'll need
A) Google translate
B) A currency converter, since the donation is in Ukraine money.
C) Probably to notify your bank since the money will be going straight to the Ukraine. (My fraud dept at my CU called us when we used the site, because obviously, the transaction seems suspicious for people not from there)
As far as the veracity of the site, I've vetted it to the best of my ability, and am confident enough that I used it.
To err is human. Fortune favors the monsters.
|
|
|
|
|
My CU has blacklisted/blocked all financial transactions by default, with Ukraine, Czech Republic, Russia, and a few other countries.
I have to meet the bank in person, I can't call or email, and I have to specify which company I will be doing business with, and they whitelist this transaction for 3 days only.
Unfortunately, I can't whitelist a "blocked" company/country indefinitely.
With that said, donating money to causes and charities outside the United States is a real PITA.
|
|
|
|
|
I can see why they would. I'm glad my CU doesn't. Instead they check in with us via phone before authorizing the payment. I find it convenient as far as security measures go.

These days, almost two hundred thousand Ukrainians trespassed the Ukrainian-Polish border in Lviv, Ukraine, aiming to save their lives, due to the Russian military occupation threat. Awful.

And it seems like 'Yes, I know it is politics, but it is our politics' serves as a protection in the lounge nowadays.

It bothers a bunch of us, especially those of us who lived through the Cold War; I spent my career designing and programming products to end that, then had my career destroyed by the end of it. But this is not the place; this is where good programmers and engineers come to learn how to do their jobs or hobbies better. We are a community devoted to helping each other to become better at what we do; we're not here to change the world. There are other forums for that, lots of them. Please do join them, and support them; this is an existential issue that should concern all of us. But not here...
By the way, don't believe the lamestream media reports on the Trucker Convoy in the US. I was there, freezing my butt off, at their first stop after setting off from the Peoples' Republic of California. The media reported a couple dozen trucks; I lost count at somewhere around 70, and they just kept coming. At that time, the convoy was 8 miles long; today it was reported to be 27 miles long. Our fearless leader is, of course, hiding in his basement, as usual. There's a lot of coverage out there about the Ukraine situation; please do keep in touch with this. But this is not the place for it, unless you have a software fix that can make it better.
Good Lord, I'd love to see a SaveUkraine patch in my Windows Update display...

Thank you very much for remembering us. I've got no idea about @BohdanStupak, but I'm just positive and alive, right at the moment. Although, God knows what will happen in a couple of days, later on.
Anyway, please don't be in worry about us and that military conflict in Ukraine. I hope, most of us will *NOT* be hurt by the war, and everything will be just fine and will get back to normal, finally, after its end.
Thanks a lot for your post.
