I came to the realization this weekend that it's not just computers and phones anymore.

I think the last 3-4 times I've been asked for technical help, it was from people who had replaced their car, and couldn't figure out how to pair it with their phone, install the app for it, etc.

And since cars are only getting more complex software...I guess the conclusion is that there's no getting away from it. Ever.

Someone recently had the nerve to ask me: "What do you use to get high ?" I said, as i hurried away from the idiot: "Science !"

i once (1992 ?) went to a special exhibition of medusae (jellyfish) at the famous aquarium in Monterey; i was entranced, enchanted ... still am Smile | :)

Helen Scales' book "The Brilliant Abyss" [^] about jellyfish resonated with my recent reading on neuro-science, and the complex nature of neurons in this fabulous wetware analog-chemical computer and its 3.3 lbs. or so of dull grey matter in a hard bony container ... the human brain.

Yes, a strange resonance; a 600k year-old family of creatures with a range of neurons maxing out at 20k or so, and Homo Saps, the number two neuron record-holder, with ~85 billion.

i couldn't resist playing poet, with the ocean-depth levels as metaphor for states of consciousness OMG | :OMG:

Hi Eddy, in the '60's, i experimented, like so many of my rebel-without-a-cause fellow baby-boomers, but, i came to earth by my mid-twenties, as did many of my peers, when i discovered yoga and meditation.

For me, the sense of wonder i find in science, and the joy i find in both progr4amming and creative writing, and making music, is the "high" that suits me fine.

I've read about ayahuasca therapy for drug addiction, and PTSD, etc.; not me the (the Romans called it) vomitorium route to ecstasy Smile | :)

Speaking of "science," can you guess who said these words, and when they were said:

I went to the Monterey Aquarium years ago on a vacation to the PRC.

It is indeeed, a magical place.

If you ever come to New Orleans make a trip to the Aquarium of the Americas. It's pretty special too.

It's their logo that looks really familiar to me as well - some kind of stereo or speaker company has something like that (but not blue)?

And of course, it looks an awful lot like the VS logo, just bent. Which also seems rather appropriate.

To be fair, it's really hard coming up with a word that doesn't mean something else in some language or another.
Disney's movie Moana is named Vaiana over in Europe because apparently the name Moana was already taken by some Italian porn actress (although they say it's because of other trademark conflicts).
Even my own name has a meaning in English, but is a very popular name over here that doesn't mean anything in particular.

Facebook's new name is very unfortunate though, especially considering the scale at which they're going to use it Laugh | :laugh:

They probably had to come up with a new name quickly as a diversion for all their scandals and they haven't given it the attention and research it probably should've gotten.
