I spent a number of years working on UNIVAC systems which used octal extensively. Reading a 500 page system dump printout all in octal was one of the highlights of my early career.
And the reason I needed to wear glasses in my 20s rather than 40s.

I used to use octal - a couple of EL34 jobs plugged in nicely in a push pull circuit for my student days power amp.

Wow. I've worked in Firefighting Aviation Comms for 15+ years, familiar with the use of Squawk Codes (Transponder codes) and still remember 7600 (lost radio comms) and 7700 (emergency). I just never noticed the lack of 8s and 9s. But now 76 and 77 make a bit more sense (and more likely to stick in this aged nerd brain).
On a different note, I recently saw an update arrive for a python library. It seems that leading zeroes would stuff up its parsing of dotted decimal IP4 addresses. :facepalm:

Surely you mean dotted-octal.
A few years ago I was asked to look into some problems we were having with IPv4 address parsing. There were data quality issues with incoming feeds, such as missing dots and the occasional leading zero. I had to educate my colleagues as to why the behavior of the parser was correct.

Maybe someone here also uses Teams - specifically the chat tool? With remote access being what it is these days, it's a useful tool, and I collect much information in it. I am now faced with trying to find some older messages with my boss. For the life of me, I cannot figure out a way to export the complete content of the chat *client* session. It's such a needed feature, I am mystified as to why it cannot be done easily.
I have found one blog that has me out doing powershell queries. Really?
wtf MS? Did I miss something obvious. Interestingly, had I used the chat via the browser, the discussion is sort of saved.
Anyone else solve this problem?

Yup. Searching a Team chat is abysmal. Exporting a Team chat? Forget it. So stupid. I wish the company I worked for hadn't moved to Teams. We were using Slack. Loved Slack.

I work for a fortune 500 company that is an all MS shop. I'm sure the corporate data servers have every Teams conversation stored away for nefarious purposes. However, I get a notification in Teams that old messages are removed on a regular basis.
As for an export feature, that probably just wasn't MVP. Wait a few releases.

Teams itself doesn't remove old messages. Those messages are being removed by your IT department to manage the size of the Exchange server (used to store Teams chats).

I support some very old products where context can be important. I cannot even easily "select all". It's ridiculous.

Same here. Our email auto-deletes after 6 months, even though the company policy on record-keeping allows retention for up to 24. I've lost countless bits of interaction that were important to establish context.
And before someone asks, yes I do manually save emails and attachments separately when I can and I know in advance that I will need the information down the road.
The real pisser in all of this is that Outlook provides for maintaining separate (off-server) archives of email data. Of course, the pinheads in charge have disabled this administratively.

Unfortunately no.
I happen to have to use Teams in a corporate environment, so I have no access to the exchange server. I took a look at that article earlier this morning.
All I want to be able to do is right mouse click on a contact and select "Save chat session..." - it mystifies me how Microsoft manages to miss the most obvious stuff, and declares success with rounded icons.

You may want to upvote/add a request to UserVoice. I was happy when MS responded to my (and others') request to be able to pop out a chat so we could have multiple conversations running at the same time.
