Agreed. The ergonomic chair worked in my case mainly for the lumbar support and adjustable arm rests. When we are in the zone, we don't realize just how long we are sitting in the same position.

I actually have two, both of which are really good. My office chair, the company bought, works well mainly for the adjustable arm rests and lumbar support, but that's basically it. I've been using a sit-stand desk at work ever since I had a herniated disc in 2015. I'd like to get one at home too, but don't have the space.

A sit stand desk can help (mine is an "Ology" from Steelcase). Maybe you won't like to stand to work, but at least you will be able to adjust the table height to your needs. I have the sit and the stand positions stored in the controller and sometimes it helps standing. But it ALWAYS help having the table at YOUR height.
A good chair can help too (mine is a "Sayl" from Herman Miller but I should have got the "Aeron", the "Cosm" or the "Embody"), you can look at the Steelcase chairs too (the "leap" model seems to be the most renowned in their series).
But the best thing you can do is to reinforce your muscles in your back.

Dunno if I'd call it a "bad back" but a lifetime of bad posture certainly hasn't been great. Working on fixing that but unfortunately "ergonomic" chairs designed for posture actually harm my back since I'm WAYYY outside of the height parameters they design for (I'm ~6'6"). I saw Mike mention using your stomach muscles which I can attest works in taking some of the job off your spinal erector muscles; also pushing your butt back in your chair to stop your lower back from rounding seems to help take some additional strain off for me.

My doctor, informed me that the results of an MRI (done for a completely different reason) showed that I have "deteriorating vertabrae"! Whatever that means.

Mine is from a poor choice in genes during the old gamete shuffle. I've had osteoarthritis in my lower back since my late 20's. 30+ years of running, cycling, and weight training later I still hurt, but at least I had fun getting here.

I'm sorry to hear that, as I know it's difficult. For me, 2x220 mg of naproxen sodium twice a day manages the discomfort pretty well, and I've become very good at not doing stupid things to my back/

We all know about the shortages of parts needed to manufacture electronics (and cars that need those components).
Seems to me that this would make the "right-to-repair" arguments even stronger, because due to these shortages, we are reverting away from being a "throw-away" society.

This man here (Louis Rossman) has been fighting for the "right to repair" movement/campaign for many years now. He has even partnered with farmers and farm equipment repair persons and companies (farmers right to repair - i.e. John Deere equipment, etc.).
Louis Rossman owns his own tech repair company. Apple in particular is his main enemy, as Apple does not like "right to repair".

Agreed. I've been watching Louis for years, mainly on how to repair electronics. I can't see spending so much on devices that are designed to be thrown away after a couple of years. I horde electronics and my stash is getting too big. I hate that so much engineering and work went into a marvel of modern engineering being tossed into a land fill. Companies like Apple should be made to foot the bill for all of the hazardous waste they produce each year. Maybe they would change their ways if that happened.

Unfortunately, you are correct. Too many companies are making money off of this financial model and too many customers who don't care. The customers want their immediate excitement and validation "fix". Companies like Apple seem more like dealers in this scenario and the customers more like junkies. All I can say is that this will not end well for any of us in the long run.

I've despised Apple since I was a kid because of their outright arrogance. Their customers stick with them like it's a religion, and I've always found the whole thing to be downright disgusting. Apple to me represents crass consumerism in the worst way imaginable.

Google? Microsoft? Samsung? Dell? HP? Lenovo?

I ask because they all seem equally crass to me. I know people just as loyal to these brands as I see others loyal to Apple and every one of these brands is out to make money for their investors.

Spoiler Alert: Apple are bastards in ways the others you've mentioned could only dream of being.
Around 20 years ago, Apple wanted $80 to diagnose the problem with an $800 ipod. All I'd done was try to transfer files without using their iTunes crapplication. $1000 to diagnose the problem in a $10,000 car - I uh, I don't think so!
That shop isn't there any more. The drycleaners next door were there 40 years ago and still are.

He attempts repairs on the machines that people bring him. He doesn't do exclusively Apple stuff.
You're right - it would be so much easier to dismiss him if it were obvious he was unfairly biased.
