I've only heard of spinlocks being used in SMP systems while waiting for another processor to finish using shared memory. The memory might be used, for example, to avoid the overhead of the IP stack during interprocessor messaging. It's a reasonable design if the spinning is always brief, because the spinning processor is literally twiddling its thumbs while waiting. Smile | :)
