MS's messaging on the update has been a massive hot mess. Depending on where you look the TPM requirement is either 2.0 or 1.2. IF you have a newer system you might be able to enable a soft-TPM in your BIOS instead of having to buy a $20-40 external module.

The update advisor app is basically useless since it doesn't actually say what the problem is. D'Oh! |

Supposedly - according to some people in the Arstechnica article peanut gallery (I assume based on playing with the leaked installer from a week or two ago) - it's also not testing for the minimum requirements to run W11, but a much more stringent recommended list that among other things rejects any CPU more than about 3 years old (intel 8xxx/Ryzen 2xxx or newer). This might also be the source of the TPM1.2 vs 2.0 confusion. 2018 is also when MS started requiring OEM systems to include TMP2.0; which sorta fits with the CPU generation gate as well.

Other than being 64bit none of the actual CPU requirements that would presumably hard block are for features newer than 10-15 years ago; so I really don't get why they're trying to exclude something like half the PCs currently in use from possibly getting the free upgrade. All it's going to accomplish is to slow the uptake of W11, and result in even less interest from desktop developers in supporting any of its new features. D'Oh! |

But right now HTElephant | [mastadon] knows what the actual end state is going to be.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Straw Poll

On which operating systems are you writing code?
Let's see if things have changed since we last ran this. "writing code" meaning editing, building, and running the code on that OS.
