I actually browse down the list for someplace else to look.
In part, some distorted concept of CP loyalty.
In part, because so often I've seen gibberish replies and 'already asked, go away' type of answers.
Fortunately, I have never had to ask a question in "forum".

Yeah, that's why I never ask a question, I just look at the answers already provided and pick the one I judge will work best for me. I have rarely failed to find what I need and don't get involved in the p*ssing contests - although I do see them in passing.

Me too. There are real technical jewels over there.
But the community in CP is not comparable. Despite the occasional problems, I still think CP has one of the best communities in the internet.

I've found a number of answers, or at least help that pointed me in the right direction, on stackoverflow.
I have not, however, been able to post a question. The first time I tried the question was closed and marked as "improper" with no explanation within minutes of my posting it. The second one the question disappeared without a trace. I think it was deleted by a moderator.
I have no compunctions about using information I glean on SO. They can go ![Elephant | [mastadon]](https://codeproject.global.ssl.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/elephant.gif) themselves with a pitchfork sideways before I'll ever try asking another question or posting responses.

I've used SO a lot to find answers. I had a problem (with Remote Desktop Connection to a Raspberry Pi - started a few days ago) and the only search link that mentioned it was to SO, so I wrote a comment on it (had to sign up to do it) which has been immediately deleted by some SOer as they don't accept "It happens to me as well" responses. I've not had that happen on CP.

And that kind of deletion of comments is arbitrary too, because you'll see other members post stuff like that and they leave it. The system is especially difficult for newcomers.

Yep, that is the kind of experience I've had there too. I do have a growing number of questions and answers there now since I've been on there for a number of years.
The deleting of questions with no explanation is the one that really has made me mad.
I once posted to electronics.stackexchange.com (the worst snobs of all) and they deleted it.
The question was about electrolytic capacitors and I knew they were spiteful so I took a lot of time to write it up and then they deleted it as if it never existed and I wanted that question so I could think about it.
At a certain point I decided to use them as a repository of my questions. Things I find interesting I ask a question in order to keep record of them.

But if someone "new" had posted the answer they would have been shot down as being wrong, out of line, not answering the question, etc. I gave up answering on SO because of this.

Nah stack does alright if you use it as a source of existing information, asking a question OTOH is an invitation to being condescended upon.
