Really? Maybe it's just a US thing but there are lots of Index Funds on the stock exchange that have averaged 12-15%+ for 10+ years. The Magellan Fund, for example, at Fidelity has a 15.87% life return and it was opened in 1963.

The gentlemen seems to have confused "unrealized capital gains" and "interest".
Pretty much, assuming a fund to spread the risk, corporate bonds will give you 5%-6% and municipal bond funds may reach 3% with substantial tax exemptions.
I have money in (NY State) municipal bond funds and they're returning just over 3%, and if I remain living in NY State, that's 100% tax free. Once a year they do have a distribution of capital gains - but that's sort of extra (and taxable). However, the value of the funds fluctuates - mostly I've been behind but have caught up with the initial investment (2x, actually). It doesn't matter unless I sell them, but, since the money's there to return the bond interest I don't have any plans to sell them. Meanwhile, I've gotten a pretty nice pile of interest over the years.
10%? That's the long-term increase in something like the S&P 500 - but stocks go down, too.

Most of the time on the internet when an arrogant person misunderstands something from the OP they respond with assertions that the OP is wrong and "just because" without any explanation or backing it up with evidence. Roth IRA isn't really the point, I guess that was not clear on my part. The Roth part just means tax free growth, but you can get the same rate in a regular IRA.

My little Windows phone is no more, well I've turned it into an mp3 player for my son, but in terms of a working phone it has gone. So much unfulfilled potential.
I know I was in a very small minority but I really liked it and I really liked the UI. I particularly liked the confused looks I got from people when I told them I had a windows phone which often meant I didn't have access to a particular app. It let me make calls, listen to podcasts and access the internet and emails. I have simple needs.
But everything has either stopped working or will soon and too many things just kept on crashing.
Now I have to spend lots of time trying to stop Google doing things for me. I'm not interested in their news and I don't want to talk to them!!!
Still it's progress I guess.

Too little, too late, too forced onto desktops.
If they had "split the OS" into "mobile" and "non-mobile" versions (like Apple do) and reduced the hardware requirements as a result it might have done well. Especially if it came out five years earlier than it did.
But I don't think the world will really miss it.
