I've set chrome as my default browser. But any link I click on, from any windows Application, is getting opened in Edge browser. How do I override this behavior?
(Other than changing my OS to linux  )

Default browser isn't enough.
Open Settings, and select the Home page via the icon on the left.
Click on "Apps" - you should be on "Apps and features".
Scroll to the bottom of the page (you can hover the mouse over the scroll bar to do it quickly, or rotate the mouse scroll wheel for around a year - this is an UWP app, so it doesn't work very well)
UNder "Change app defaults", click "Open Default app settings".
Scroll down to the bottom, and click "Set defaults by app"
Scroll down interminably to "Microsoft Edge". Click it (I know, I know: that's a horrible thought - but it won't open the execrable app, honest).
Click "Manage" and you should be able to change the defaults.

Just got a new Acer Chromebook 11 CB311, well not me but my wife, which is very nice and simple to install, but ...
for the life of me I can't figure out how to get a shortcut onto the desktop, dragging does not work and R-Mousebutton - Add to shelf places it on the lower taskbar.
Anyone has experience with this ?
[Edit] maybe as a Windows user I take this functionality for granted, but it does not exist, in the demo pictures I can't find an example of icons on the desktop: Google Chromebooks[^]

No, when I follow these instructions the icon stays below in the taskbar:
1. In the corner of your screen, click the Launcher and then Up arrow.
2. Find the app that you want to add.
3. Right-click the app icon.
4.Click Pin to Shelf.
Dragging the icon to the desktop makes it disappear ...

The bit I saw was: Quote: Pin a web page to your desktop
If you often go to the same web page, you might want to pin it to your desktop.
Open the web page in Chrome.
Click More More and then Create shortcut.
To add the shortcut to your shelf, click Create.
Which to my mind implied a desktop shortcut to a page.

Mystery solved, I received the following answer from the Google Support forum:
