Hi All,
Just went through a series of hoops and jumps to get an expenses paid for a proffesional membership.
Use the correct form but it needs to signed and dated by my boss, so that gets printed out, a second form needed to be filled in so print and sign, this then needs to be copied to accounts, admin and on a total of 4, now thinking that in the spirit of the mother earth I scanned the signed copy as a PDF and emailed it. PDF's won't do it needs to be a physical copy (?) printed and each person looked at it with a general "Oh thanks" looked at opens a database page clicks a tick box and then files it in the shredder...  . I am almost afraid to claim something else as it may require a forest...

During my 11.5 years at my previous job the amount of printing I did in my last year was down 20-100x vs my first. Even discounting the gain from going from bleeding on hard copy to Word's track changes tool for document review it was probably down at least 10x for everything else as most internal paperwork was replaced with web forms. During my last year I suspect printing CD labels and jewel cases for a few code and software deliveries to customers was half to three quarters of my total printing; and that was entirely due to the glacial pace of their control systems updating not something on our end.
I've been at my new job for over a year. Not only have I not printed anything on an office printer even once; but I just checked and my OS install was never configured to connect to any of the office printers we have. 
It may have been a joke when it first became a buzzword 20 or 25 years ago; but it's been steadily happening more recently.

When I started at my current job 27 years ago, we had a recycling bin in the office area. I let recyclable paper pile up on the corner of my desk until it was 8-12 inches tall, and then lug it over to the bin. This happened 2-3 times per year.
In 2017, my recycling "pile" is in a letter tray over my desk. The pile for the entire year is about ½ inch tall. My daughter (the conservation biology major) is very proud .

The really pathetic part of this is that a handwritten signature is worthless. No one is going to verify it, no one would know if it is valid or not.
On the other hand, my digital signature nearly unbreakable. For Pete's sake, we've been using PGP signatures since the beginning of the 1990's. There's absolutely no excuse to use paper in this century.
For less technical folks, there is "docusign".

I think it is some strange attachment to seeing a handwritten signature. I know I've used a few services that you upload a signature and then when you digitally sign, it places that image at a particular place on the document in addition to all the important stuff.
Peace of mind for the less digitally inclined.

Walking through the office yesterday I saw a flunky wandering through with an arm full of print out each approx 2 inches thick. I casually remarked as I passed him "tree killer".
As little as a few tears ago there used to be piles of printed material stacked on every desk and there are over 300 desks on my floor alone. Now it is unusual, hence my comment to this poor flunky.

It seems like a load of people view having to set the following day's CCC as a punishment, so I'd like to suggest a few changes.
How about we set up a "CCC setters" group - membership open to all who want to do it - and each member in turn gets a week's worth of puzzles to set?
No "prize", no "punishment" for answering correctly - except the warm glow you get from success and the approbation of your compatriots - so it might be "open" to more members? Take it back a little towards the Original CCC since it appears that DD's political faux pas has removed him from our presence eternally.
Thoughts people? Good idea / bad idea / I like turtles / suggestions that don't involve fire and / or brimstone gladly accepted.

I suppose it would give people who rarely get to the answer first a chance to be a “setter”. (That would probably include me as a rule, despite my recent couple of “wins”!) But does anyone really see it as a chore they’d rather avoid? I suppose they must or you wouldn’t suggest this, but really folks, there are more onerous tasks in life that this, really there are…
But, yeah, I’d be game if others want.

It probably will give some satisfaction for some like me (no-native English), but first you have to see if there is anyone who would willingly set up CCC when not being forced by rules... So first you should look for a list of 'setters'...

It's a good idea - so if anyone who is interested in being in the "setters" group could reply, either by responding here, or via the "email" link at the bottom and we'll get an idea of how many there are. We'll probably need at least four or five to make it work, and the more the merrier!

I think this is a good idea.
I have (rarely) managed to solve the CCC, but creating a new one is beyond my abilities. My mind simply isn't sufficiently pretzel-like. 
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

So you think people are looking on setting one as a chore, so you propose making them set 5.
Plus your taking away the motivation of trying to correctly guess it. For example I've thought of a great clue so am looking to solve one so I can post it. I haven't thought of 5 great clues though.

It if 5:30 in the morning where I am, and, I can see the day's CCC has already been published and solved. So, for me, it is a series of posts to scroll past...
There is no point in trying to solve it, event if it hasn't been solved, because then, as per the 'rules' I would have to get up in the middle of the night to meet the 'required' deadline.
Better option: move it to 'Weird and Wonderful'.

However - if you are a 'setter' you can send your weekly clues to OG (or someone else who volunteer) and that one will post them 'in-time'...
As to solve no more sets the next-day 'setter' we can remove the time barrier and let you enjoy the challenge at any time you have...
