I had to read that a couple of times to catch the issue. Years ago, I griped to a co-worker about his code spelling in a common, VERY important, header file. So he fixed his spelling.
I got my code building *8* hours later... asteroid with a laser pointer indeed. That cured my grammar nazi tendencies.

Thank Microsoft sometimes for doing something right...
So I have this legacy project that contains some scripts the build the release images for the target system. I'm in the process of migrating the scripts to make them independent of drive letter. Depending on what is in your script DO YOUR TESTING ON A VM.
I thought all was working fine, this morning i'm testing, building release images to see how upgrades are working. That's odd "path not found." Digging a little deeper, hundreds of "Access denied" messages... auditing my scripts I came across this little beauty:
rem Scrub the target area.
rem
cd c:\
cd %dll_target_dir%
rem
del/f/q *
The target dir is not on the C drive, the CD to the target fails, and I'm actually in "c:\windows". I've been trying to delete my operating system disk contents for the past month.  Seems Windows won't allow me to delete the contents there.
My hands are still shaking. I have a good backup, but still.... ai ai ai

That's the brain dead Windows command prompt for you. The change to the Windows directory if a cd command fails is really stupid. Why did MS even do it that way I'm the first place?!

Nobody said that and just trying it out show's it doesn't do that either.
OP said he was on c:\windows so not finding the the path to change to it stayed there.
That's the way I read it, your milage may vary.

It does that for me on WinX. Most of the time, at least. Sometimes it goes to a random directory.

Microsoft started protecting things in \Windows \System32 etc a while back.
They know that nefarious types would like to replace system DLLs with their own libraries so they can get a kind of "root" access to you machine.
So, the copies you see in those directories aren't the actual ones running in memory but those are hidden somewhere else and then if (inadvertently or purposely) deleted the system copies them back to their original location.
I don't know all the details but it is really cool when it fixes problems like you had.

They're probably unaware that they did, and it just defaults to the location of the program that blocks the command.

Just tested it, and still works as expected under W7.
"System cannot find the path specified" ..without a change of the current working directory. Certainly not a random one.

I'm not going to bother with the back story because cracked displays are all too common.
Phone is usable, minimal cracks in a corner but one clean one that goes from bottom right to middle left. Usually doesn't see it but from some angles or depending on colour on lightning it does show.
It's going to cost 250€ to get this little mistake fixed... or a brand new s7 for 500€.
Live with it (haven't dared to try and see how it impacts VR), repair or get a new?
Or chuck it all to hell and just stick to smoke signals?
