So my computer crashed yesterday after a windows update installation. Now I blue screen at startup, right after the Windows logo is displayed (windows 7 here).
I could twice enter safe mode by hitting f8 at startup, but now the startup menu only displays two options : launch recovery (which fails, I have no recovery point) and start windows normally, which blue screens ? Do you know how to bring back the advanced startup menu with all options, including safe mode ? Please let someone tell me he knows...
I have been looking and googling and trying for more than 2 hours now...

Boot from your Windows 7 DVD/USB and select Repair Installation (or something along those lines).
Haven't had to do this for a few years with Windows 7 and am down the Barbers so can't text for you. But am sure Safe Mode or equivalent is available.

Still running WU in win 7?
You realize they are not adding anything new, barely fixing anything unless really broken (nothing significant in the last year plus), but reports say they are adding tracking (a la win 10 we own you), and rumored as possibly screwing up a few other things that could make life a little harder down the road.
Really, if you're on Win 7 and have important stuff on your machine and no intention to upgrade anytime soon, updates should be off ("inform but don't download" at the very most - but even that's a joke because they're saying less and less about what the updates are each itteration.)
As-is, Win-7 is super stable and secure (still far more s & s than win 10), unless a killer hole is found even installing benign updates is actually a far greater risk than not updating.

There certainly should be laws against automatic, enforced updates.
If the US is happy with one of their companies doing it to their people, fair enough, but the rest of the world should be kicking microsoft's @rse.

I wonder if that's not going to happen sooner or later. I'm sure we do have laws against installing software for more or less shady purposes without the computer owner's permission. Personally I don't care from whom the spyware and malware comes. I also don't care about their intentions or wether or not it's bad. My computer is part of my home or my business. Nobody just walks in uninvited, feels right at home and starts telling me how we are going to do things.
If they at least came personally, I could handle this Texas style.

Well, if you had made a Macrium (ie like Ghost) of the hard disk you could just pout it back. ie NEVER trust Windows updates/rollback.
As for your bug, boot off a USB stick/CD into any OS, Hieransa boot CD has an XP on it, Ubuntu on a USB stick, etc, and get the crash file (either memory.dmp in the system or a minidump file in the minidump dir, and debug the crashh to find out which driver is the cause. Hopefully you can rescue the situation, but it looks a bit grim.

If you guys are talking about turn signals, I have seen BMW drivers use them on the Autobahn. They are going +200 km/h in the fast lane with their left turn signal on.

Don't feel too bad. I read the replies to your question and still don't know what they are talking. However, I have already lost interest, so I will just assume it is a turn signal even though that does not make me get the point of the original post.
