It's so trash that I want to see it - only because it's so bad it's good. It like watching kung fusion with respect to the Bruce Lee movies... funny but nothing like the immortal originals, which were true (thus debatable) art.

There was a time when I had only the time to work, study and work to fix a hell of a period: I was the very worst person around and believe me, you wouldn't want to get in 10 feet around me. So yes, if watching movies / playing games / planning my D&D campaign keeps me inside the premises of mental sanity thopse hours are anything but wasted. At least it grants me some more year of life...

Your expectations were way too high. 'Hollywood remakes foreign film and the result is equal to/better than the original?'
True Grit (2010) also a remake but of another Hollywood effort is in my opinion way better than the earlier one.

So I set off looking for a simple screen capture video recorder blithely assuming that freeware is still out there to be found. What I find instead is that 'free' doesn't mean 'free' any more. Free means try now pay later, or restricted use, or saves only to YouTube, or ad support, or piles of junk thrown in, or sell your soul, or anyone of a thousand other deals with the devil. When did that happen?
Anyway, if anyone can recommend an actually free program fit for purpose you'll find me on my despair chair wondering where it all went wrong and pondering all the other disillusionments of the 21st Century (did you know there's not even any coal tar in coal tar soap these days?)

Not that particular site but one very like it. CamStudio is the top recommendation on both but it seems to have fallen into grubby hands since and most of the other suggestions fall under the taint of not really being free when you examine them properly. Hence my rantette.

CamStudio is still free, as far a I know. At least it was a couple months ago when I downloaded it.
It's still a PITA to use, of course, too.

It is still free but there have been multiple reports of it being infected with malware. As you will understand I'm not keen on finding out whether they are true or not!

Actually, I tend to look at things coming from the other direction - software has been devalued nowadays to the point where nobody is willing to pay more than a few bucks for it. I blame Steve Jobs for convincing the masses that software should sell for no more than $1.99 (and then you have to give him his 30% cut). When's the last time you bought software from a shelf in a box, or direct from a developer/publisher?
That's why, IMO, today's software is cheap (and along with it went the quality)--the real revenue source is the adware embedded in so-called apps. I have a number of applications and utilities of my own that might've made some money a few years ago, but nowadays people would expect to get for free. Or certainly not at a price that would make it worth my while.

Not so much when last but when ever? Apart from games and new Windows versions I honestly can't recall ever paying for software. Pre realistic Internet speeds, back in the dark days of the early 90s, there was always plenty of stuff given away by magazines. And when t'Interweb got going there were freeware sites by the thousand. Anything you couldn't get for nowt you simply programmed yourself. Then came open source. I don't think you can blame Jobs for all that.

There are still other freeware product but only previous windows versions.

So what ? Either you need the SW for a one shot, then the trial solution should be good for you, or not, and then it is legitimate to pay for it, IMO.
