I once had a half English, half Russian girlfriend who claimed - and more than once seemed to demonstrate - that she could vituperate in Russian for up to 30 minutes!
- I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

That's easy. By teaching them not to recurse.

Disk - it saves everything to an image file, and you can restore the image, or mount it it as a virtual drive to get at the bits you want if you need to instead.

Oh yes!
And they do a Partition Assistant which upgrades an HDD to an SSD as well - I used it for mine, and it's excellent!

Brilliant thanks only I read some stuff where peeps had some problems with SSD's which was probably operator trouble

I did an 8.1 to 10 update in place, and a 7 to 10 via an iso image. Although, in the latter case I did an update rather than re-install. In both cases, both PCs worked fine after the upgrades; just a bit of tweaking necessary for cosmetic reasons.

Thanks Richard, I'm backing up using AMOEI and keeping several copies of the image in different places - also making physical copies of all my data to my server ( and you guessed it I'm backing up my server ) will post back soon

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the two of you were referring to each other.

If I upgrade from Win 7 to 10 will I need to reinstall all my software ( VS,SSMS et al ) ?
I'm thinking I can't avoid the shift forever so I'm going to bite the bullet this weekend.

No - a clean install is often preferred but I upgraded one laptop and everything seems to have worked (the printer needed to be uninstalled and reinstalled but minor stuff).
|
|
|
|
|
I'm seeing an upgrade now in Windows update so how can I do a clean install ?

Download ISO and burn to CD then run install from there - it gives you a "new install" option.
(Obviously back up all the stuff you need before that )
