Please forgive me, but I think your assessment of this character is a little naïve. He's been voted a troll for several postings before the one about the mugging, and by several members. Anyway, he's gone now and I wish I could say the same about all trolls in the Lounge!

If I have to tell you a joke is funny by putting an icon there, then it can't be funny. Therefore the joke icon is redundant.

When a joke is told in written form, you have to keep in mind that the audience is deprived of you facial expression, and so the probability of misinterpretation is high. That is why proper use of emoticons is important!

Have you never heard the expression 'deadpan' in relation to joke tellers? If you're looking to my face to tell you whether I'm telling a joke or not then you'll die not knowing! It's the English way to leave 'em guessing!

What's really death-defyingly flabbergasting is that when I lived in Italy, I don't remember a single person who wasn't surprised that I didn't know Benny Hill personally*.
