I have a meeting at 10 for an hour. The subject is "User Story Walkthrough".
No idea what it is going to be about.

We have these TV shows like Miami ink, La ink and NY ink on the television. And the people there come with printouts from drawings or pictures from the internet.
I was curious. How does this work with copyright laws? Normally you should include a reference, right?
And suppose you do have an original drawing, who's the owner in that case? The person drawing the tattoo, or the person wearing it?
And are "drawings" (eg a painting) different than symbols like endless knots, tribals, etc...?

I would guess it is a grey red area of copyright.

The copyright owner is always the person who has drawn the original drawing. He can license it for different types of use, either for payment or free. So even with an original drawing, you cannot use it - for a tattoo or other use - without the express permission by the artist. This doesn't necessarily have to be in writing, but it is always a good idea to do so anyway. But neither the tattoo artist nor the tattooee will have any claims to the rights.

My tattoo was drawn by the tatooist. I included an internet picture as reference how I wanted it to look, but allowed the tattooist to draw something similiar in her own style. Thus the image copyright is with the tattooist, but licensed as wearable to me.
IMHO the tattoo turns out better if you just let the artist use their own style, having an internet picture painted on ones skin is just boring.
