'Industrial Strength': if you refer to performance, I wouldn't worry so much. Python is compiled to pretty fast code (take a look at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/672857/is-python-slower-than-java-c[^]).

Python is way more than a pet language for sure. It's been there for ages, it has a huge community to support you, and a 'batteries included' standard library (including serialization, metaprogramming, async programming, ...).
