This is so true! When I moved to the US, I found I had to simplify my English as many could not understand the range of vocabulary I was using - for example, nobody seemed to know what "promulgate" or "penultimate" meant!
- I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

Perhaps you're hanging out with the wrong crowd. 
Then again, some people just use different words to say the same thing. Doesn't mean anything.

Hi,
As regulars might know I am trying to find a new job, I would like the views of all concerned in the issue of you see an advert think 'I have that', apply for it with Bobsjobs.com see an advert which is quite similar on Billsjobs.com apply for it. So you can bet it for the same role, my thinking is apply for both, you don't know if either is going to put you forward. Is this right, as I don't want to annoy a possible future employer or am I over thinking this (as usual)?

There is no such thing as overthinking stuff.
I try to keep away from these kinds of 'offers', and apply directly. That is, when I am looking for work, I will look for work, not towards ads offering inspiring opportunities with exciting technologies.

Well, This is quite common to see multiple adverts for a same position. I would apply to both and make sure the CV remains the same and some slight changes in the covering letter ( if needed).
You don't have to give an impression that you are applying like a robot to all job prospect.

Try to work out who the job is for - use google to search key terms etc. If you can find out the Company apply direct.
