It was more in the line of "what God has set before us is doing His Good Will and Pleasure", as MacSpudster formulated it.
"Herem" refers to "killing in the honor of God". To please Him. I guess these two quotes are great examples of that.

Not necessarily.
Although I've been a vegetarian for almost a third of my life (18 years this Christmas, and I'll be 28).
It's a decision I took when I was 10 years old and never looked back 
Before that I ate fish and meat daily.

Because I don't believe in God or creation and I don't want to believe in a God who condones the killing of anything (or anyone).
And hunting because your God says so is, well, like most things in religion, *looking for a 'nice' word to express myself*... Sheepish? 
Don't get me wrong, to each his own, and I respect religion and people who believe (as long as they respect me and my ways of course).
I've lived my whole life in the Dutch bible belt (in one of the most religious municipalities in the country) and I grew up in a mostly christian family (not my parents though) and I went to a christian elementary school. Then I made a very conscious decision for a non-religious high school when I was 12.
That said, I don't have to agree with any religion (and they don't have to agree with me).

I guess that's where I'm confused. You said you're not against killing animals for food but you also can't believe in a God who is not against killing animals for food. Seems contradictory.

By the way, you do know plants are alive before they are harvested and you eat them. I'm not picking a fight but you say you're not OK with killing anything but clearly you're OK with killing plants. And by harvesting fruit and vegetables you are also removing a food supply for insects and other wild animals and therefore killing them indirectly as well. Just seems like you're picking and choosing and not being consistent. Just saying.

Thing 1: I have a daughter? Really?! Lemme know where she lives, then. Would like to say "Howdy". (the video is not of me or family; just from YouTube...)
Thing 2: Hunting isn't an exclusive "American Lifestyle", it's a means to acquire/harvest food used throughout the world. The reaction "buck fever" in the video occurs mostly because natural harvest isn't as prevalent in our general American culture as it is in other regions in the world. It's their 'way of daily life' vs our once-a-year instance; they're used to it, we're not.
Thing 3: A deer struck with an arrow 'suffers' longer than with a reasonably-placed shot.
Thing 4: It appears you live in the Netherlands. An American complaining about "lifestyles" in Netherlands is like, well, a Netherlander complaining about "lifestyles" in America. Both being mutually exclusively categorized into the "WTF zone".
Thing 5: I am the hunter disposition that does, in fact, keep the harvest as clean and 'humane' as possible, with exceeding respect for nature, and teach this and more to my children.
Thing 6: When you have a "gang" (criminal types) coming toward you and loudly stating they're going to exceedingly harm you and your daughters, a self-defense armament upon you equalizes things very quickly. As a father, I know this very directly. (And, yes, I have daughters.)

Alright, alright, I was under the impression that was you in the video and it isn't.
I'm sorry if I offended you by categorizing hunting (for sports) as 'American lifestyle'.
It's just something I never understood (being a vegetarian myself) and that Americans (among others) seem to do (once in a while).
I could also strongly disagree with your view on guns, but let's just agree to disagree 
No politics in the lounge after all!
I'd say let's focus on the things we have in common (we're both on CP!) and drink to that!
But then I read that coder interview and it seems you're an Apple user...
