This discussion could be entitled Dealing with people. I understand that you have less patience now that you are cutting weight. But there shouldn't be a lot of patience for that kind of behaviour in any situation.

You are obviously dealing with a NullReferenceException. What you need to do in this particular situation, is "don't" trap the error, and let it bubble up to the top of the stack, where it will be handled by your boss.
That is what bosses are for.

I'd leave not-so-subtle clues about your extra-work activities. Maybe he'll understand whom is talking to, and that it is not a good idea to behave as he does.

Use his own technique against him. Don't finish his item, but do finish yours. At the end of the day YOUR list will be cleared, but HIS list won't. When confronted about it act all surprised "I didn't know you wanted me to do it, I must've heard/understood you wrong. Man, so sorry about that!"

no, I didn't know that. I know several developers in BJJ. I have seen a few cage fighters that were computer science guys.
