So, Mrs Yoda is running a business selling books for Usborne. She's now decided that she wants to start keeping track of her stock. As she's going to be managing this out of her business, she's looking for recommendations for cheap (free is better) inventory management software. Any recommendations?

While I would normally relish this, I have so many projects on the go right now that I can't fit it in. Mrs Yoda is a loving woman who appreciates this, which is why she asked me about it - she's wanting to move from her Excel spreadsheet which just isn't comprehensive enough for her anymore.

Since she used Excel, she could as well use a database (if a software Guru is incidentally nearby, then a nice GUI would be soon available).

Excel works surprisingly well, at least in the early days.
Trouble is that once they get used to it, it starts to get expanded. One small company I worked for the MD started with a nice simple Excel sheet for the inventory, and "added value" to include automatic subassemblies, pricing, resources, and so on to the point where changing a stock level tied the PC up for 20 minutes...

That's a common sin: so many people (me too) used Excel where a database was far more appropriate.

That would require free time. As well as running a business, I have some courses to write for Pluralsight, things I have to do for Intel, some more articles that I want to write for CodeProject. By the time I'll have a free period, it will be next year- oh, and I'm not that bothered about boys nights out.

I became a lifetime member of LibraryThing[^] when they first started. All my books are online and I love it.
I've also used the comics app of Collectorz[^]. It's not free, but extremely powerful. I assume their book app is just as good.
Not sure how helpful these are for business, but they're great for personal use.
