I thought everybody knew this word, it's one I use a lot. Just found out a bloke I work with that comes from up North(Bristol) has never heard it before. After some googling, to my surprise, it turns out it is a Portsmouth word.
Does no-one else really use this word or even heard it before?

The only time I've ever heard that word used is in a pub in Portsmouth, with a heavily refreshed mother shouting at her young children to "stop squinnying".

See, there are commonly used words (as "whiny", for example) and there are local equivalents for these words, in this specific case "Squinny" is what a Portsmouth person says instead of whiny.
"Stop whining" - Usually used
"Stop squinnying" - Used in Portsmouth
