To have obtained a VET diploma as a Software Developer did you have to take math, science, programming, language arts, social studies, psychology and other subjects in order to obtain the diploma?

It's all depending on the state, but in my case it contained the following fields:
- OS Basics (Linux & Windows)
- Batch programming
- Structured programming (in C)
- Object Oriented Programming (C# [WinForms and ASP.Net], Java)
- English
- Maths
- General Education (includes politics, laws)
- Boolean Algebrae
- Assembler (8 Bit AVR)
- Project management basics
The ones mentioned above were all the same for every student, plus I got me some individual skills at work:
- Hardware Simulation over virtual COM ports
- C++ on Qt
- Creation of end user trainings, 3rd level support

Yeah, script programming would be a better description.

Is it almost the same as getting a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or a Bachelors of Science in Software Engineering?
|
|
|
|
|
No, but it certifies you as Software Developer. It's an entry level degree, and most of the Bachelors in CS or SE in Switzerland started with a VET diploma, because they can work part-time as developers during their Bachelor studies.

That sounds nice there are certificates for those fields where I go and I find it annoying for the fact anyone who gets those never find a job. :/ Sadly we must either find an internship while going to school or work another type of job. Congratulations though on getting it!
I will be finishing my degree soon and well I already develop many different programs. What about you have you developed anything neat or nifty to where you could sell it on your own?

No, but I'm currently working on a Syslog implementation on .Net which I will publish on CP once it is finished.

Yes, you are right. NVQs have different levels, where in the Swiss system we have different names for our "levels, e.g.
- Level 1 : certificate
- Level 2 : diploma
- Level 3 : master diploma [badly translated]
The requirements are defined by the job you learn, and therefore may differ from job to job.

Little boy: I'm a boy. How about you?
Little girl: I don't know.
Little boy: Wait, I'll check.
(Then he goes under the blanket)

Little boy: You are a girl.
Little girl: How do you know?
Little boy: Because...
