Hey, OG - OT I know, but you were born the same year as I. Fascinating,.
We were never bored! When we wanted to find something out we went round to Mrs Lakin's house and used her encyclopaedia.
And we didn't watch daytime TV because THERE WASN"T ANY ON!
and even had there been, it would have been in black and white.

In my case it was because for the early part of my youth, we didn't have a TV!
IIRC, it was 1969 and the moon landing that prompted a set to arrive.

We actually had a TV quite early on (My dad had the first set in his street when he was a lad). Set it up for the cup final, with a sheet of glass in front painted green at the bottom, so it looked like colour 
God, the moon landing. That was SO exciting! for a 10 year old. I remember our headmaster was really into it so the school had the TV on in the gym/dining room whenever there was anything happening, and he didn't really mind too much if you missed a lesson or two to watch!
I had to go to bed when they actually landed - my dad promised to wake me whatever time it happened, ran upstairs when it was imminent, but couldn't wake me! Didn't want to miss it himself so just lugged me downstairs, where I slept through until pretty much the 'one small step for crackle-buzz' moment, when Dad finally jabbed me hard enough to wake up.
it was such an emotional moment for me. Makes me so angry when people plop on about it being faked!

Mum and Dad let us stay up for it: a very rare treat! 20:17 UTC, which was twenty-past-nine in local (British Summer) time, and three hours past our bedtime!
Not sure I slept at all that night...incredible experience.

Went to grand parents to watch the landing in color. Well at least on a color TV as the feed was black and white.

Same. My grandfather bought a colour TV to watch the landings, and we were glued to it the whole time, for that and Apollo 13 as well. The TV had one of the first wireless remotes, two largish paddles, one to rotate the channel and the other for on/off. State of the art!

Never allowed to be bored. Growing up, we had this[^] outside the front door. The road was unmade, still is, and the kids from the road all played together and we ganged up on the 'poor people' from Common Road [well the name says it all].
I think the eldest of our lot would have been around your age - '59/'60 - and as one lot got too old to play the next lot joined in. I know the children on the road today are much the same, still playing together but sadly it is more indoors or nearer to home.
I had a 800 acre garden! Sherweet!

* I once visited Brum, it was closed. No I did go, even used the world's biggest outdoor toilet; or 'bullring' as the locals called it.

Sutton Coldfield (where I was brung up) was definitely the posh part of town - and far enough away from the likes of erdington to be reasonably safe.

Having lots of outdoor space to explore is excellent. I'm from a village (well my parents moved there after having me) where we have several square miles of informally open access woodland just up the road. Exploring the natural world is much more interesting than any garden can ever be.
