I find the floor plan quite interesting. There is a Clean locker room and a Duty locker room. Which my brain of course read as Dirty locker room.

I don't know what I expected - just looks a bit sterile - I guess inside/accommodation is a stark contrast to the 'work/outside areas' though. Nice to see they have a pretty good 'sick bay'.

When the owners require them to run for 30+ years to get a good ROI, they tend to keep them extremely clean. The only rigs I've been on that were really nasty were the ones that were scrapped then bought for pocket change and put back into service.

Entertainment room could use some improvement. Overall a lot nicer than the rigs I've been on, I usually get on the exploration/initial well rigs. A lot of Diamond and Transocean rigs mostly, and all floaters so pool table is out of the question . They are really spoiling you with the sauna though!

What do you suggest, what is missing? However, in addition to this area, there is also separate TV rooms for Smoking/Non Smoking, a separate Internet Cafe computer room, a fully equipped gymnasium. There was also a large cinema with staged flooring etc, but apparently that was never used so is in the process of be converted to an equipment room for the new control system and office for the system engineers.
We are planning a refit in 2015.

Years ago I came across this pamphlet:

I wonder what caused the decline of such people.
I wish I knew such a guy to ask him this and that.

There still quite few assembly programmers, at least where I am. In the last year I was programming an HC08GR16, that has 16K of memory that include the program, working memory and interrupt vector tables.
There's fun stuff like performing stack analysis, timing analysis and figuring out ways to streamline code so you can fit more in in addition to programming the microcontroller peripherals to communicate with other microcontrollers in the system. Granted one can use ANSII C to program, but I found myself still going through the assembly code to make sure the compiler does what I intended.
I wouldn't consider myself a master at assembly but I do like the direct manipulation of the hardware. No drivers to deal with, every speck of code for every bit of memory is right there. Some of the people I know amaze me at what they can do in just 16K of space.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Go work for a place such as JPL, NASA, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and other government military contractors.
There are also the medical device companies to consider.
When one mistake costs hundreds of millions of dollars or a human life, the programming is still like that.

Same reason that we no longer have demi-gods, because myth is not reality.
The reason someone might (which is what the quote says) have put a piece of software in a very small space is because they needed that functionality, that was all the space they had and they managed to create a solution.
Which is no different than anyone else solving some need.
Now it could be that in fact that very specific piece of functionality was very, very clever. But there were many people doing clever things when space was very limited.
Doesn't mean people do not do clever things now. And where it is really clever and satisfies all of the needs of the business and isn't just a demonstration of how "clever" the programmer is.

I guess I am either naive or believer in supernatural.
People are different, as I see you are pragmatic while I more of a dreamer, one of the things that I really don't understand is how the payment dictates the creativity of artists/coders to such extent that it became the primary not only concern but the motivation itself, this is sickness in my eyes, I believe in power of human inner sensitivity (not intelligence) in other words: soul - something uncontrollable by money.

So there's thunder in the distance and suddenly purple lightening fills the sky - half a minute later a wind rips through the street, the strength of which I have never witnessed before, knocking off roof tiles, overturning bins and even garden sheds!
There's around two inches of water outside the front door as if it was just dumped from the sky in 5 seconds.
I think a mini cyclone just passed through Cambridge UK 
...or maybe it's the upcoming tribulation...

We had something similar over here in Woking about the same time. At least part of a large tree was knocked over just up the road from where we live, and lots of other detritus scattered around.

In spite of how it is being reported by some news channels my experience is that it wasn't just a strong wind it was a very sudden and extremely high energy squall.
What leads me to thinking it was a cyclone/tornado was the incredibly sudden onset of the high wind and it's very fast end - I went out to the kitchen and saw one roofing tile, which much weigh around 1kg, flying through the air I don't think I'll lose too many man points in admitting that a slight wobble of the upper lip occurred too.

...and in Kent too, about an hour later. All was calm & serene, then sudden severe winds, lightening & hail. Lasted no more than 5 mins but apparently trains are in chaos because of trees down on the tracks all over the place...
