You can still use it, but don't expect any bugfixes, new features or moving on to DX 10 or better. I was told to port everything to a Metro App, which I did not intend to do for many reasons.
I had updated parts of the game to other things several times. I was quite tired of this. No point in constantly adapting something instead of making some progress. Unfortunately Mickeysoft insisted a little too much with everything connected to Windows Fisher Price Edition.
Then, programming for the Crapstore would force me to consider toy devices with far less memory or graphics capabilities. Despite all thinkable optimisations I would have had to throw away much of the best code.
And last, even if there was no reason to worry, I don't think I will ever let any Mickeysoftie decide wether or not my work is worthy of their Crapstore and let them take a good part of what I get for my work for this 'service'.

I am experienced software developer and intermediate web developer.
I have a lot of old pet project (windows games applications) most of which I haven't finished due to lack of time or motivation. Now I think to rewrite some of them as web applications or android applications.
I want to write new web application for Mafia (party) game.
Actually in the past I have written DOS game where you can play in Mafia with computer and Windows game where you can play in Mafia with computer. Now I want to write web based application where you can play with other people. Also I would like to prepare android application based on web application.
Actually it is quite easy to make android (or iOS) application from web application.

The fact that your using VB tells me that you havn't gave much thought to other platforms. A game must run on many different platforms to become sucessfull, hence you want to be able to sell it to as many different people as possible. If you don't need 3D and,or other things that require a lot of performance, you could write the code in Java, host the game on a server, then sell memberships to that web site to those who wish to play the game. The advantages of this is that you get your multiplayer built in with the server, and the code only needs to be wrote once because it'll run on many different machines. Depending on the games's requirements, it might even be able to run on tablets and smart phones too! The Java code will target anything that has internet access and a java virtual machine. If however you do need performance, the reasons to use C++ are so many, that this post could not handle them all! But one good reason is that the life Visual Basic is at the whim of a company with a madman in charge. At any given point in time, Microsoft could discontinue support for VB rather it's with DOT NET OR NOT. You'd be stuck with perhaps thousands of lines of useless code that would only compile and run on an OLD version of Windows. Since Microsoft is coming out with a new one every two to three years, that is how long long you'd have before your entire investment had dropped dead. C/C++ on the other hand will live much longer than ANY proprietary programming language! It has over 40 years of success under its belt thus far, and is continuing onward. But this isn't about the merits of one language versus another. It is about making the right choices before committing so much time and effort on a project that may become very successfull, if only those right choices are made
