As someone who has also only recently moved over to source code control please take a look at:
http://nvie.com/posts/a-successful-git-branching-model/[^]
It was my "eureka moment" with git. I picked up the basic usage of git and other systems (such as svn) reasonably quickly, but found myself not able to get my head around when I should be commiting/merging/tagging etc. This article was a fantastic push in the right direction to not only finding out how to use git, but also why I should be using it.
I use git with TortoiseGit alongside VS 2010.

Thanks! The branching and merging strategy described in the article is what I use at work and what I expect to be able to use with SVN. If it's an arduous task, I'll consider switching to Git. Thanks again!

+5 for the excellent link. That post was a huge help when I was exploring versioning systems myself and has become basis for the model I've been trying to get my department to implement. Very well thought out and clearly explained.

We have been using SourceGear Vault for years. Integrates very well with Visual Studio, but also has a good stand-alone client.
For a single developer, it's free.
All your source code is in a single SQL server database, so it's easy to backup.
It's not as cool as git, I suppose, but it works and it's reliable.

I used AnkhSVN in VS and it made my life a lot easier. However what's made my life even easier was switching to using Mercurial. It is so much better the way you manage different areas and branching. Switch now.

You do not even need SVN Server. You can simply access your repositories using file:// protocol: How to use SVN without a server?[^]
By the way, you can also integrate SVN with your issue tracker and associate commits with issues which can be very useful in future.
Another option is to use Kiln[^] which is free for single developer and integrates with their bug tracker (also free for single user)

Have you tried Git. I found it much better than using SVN

I spent a good couple hours this morning trying to get the Azure emulator working on my computer. Turns out some crapware (NTI Backup Now) that got installed with my computer was taking up TCP port 10000, which happens to be the port used by the Azure storage emulator for blob storage.

Hate some of the stuff the companies install on my computer. Also the crap that sometimes gets installed when intalling other software

Spent a couple of hours at the Ford dealer today, talking with their Motorsport Accessories manager, and it turns out we know some of the same people from "back in the day". It's been 25 years since I bench race, and I had an absolute blast.
Anyway, the base car is going to run about $24K, and the mods I'm gonna have done are going to cost around $8K. I found a (rather poor) picture of someone else's car that uses the same front fascia, driving lights, and hood, so you guys get an idea about what it's going to look like (picture it as a white car with 10-inch wide dark metallic blue Le Mans stripes.

WOW only $24K that is a very good deal isnt it?

And by the time you get it home, it's already lost nearly 10% of that value. After the first year, it's worth barely 80% of what you paid for it. Why folks continue to buy new is beyond me.

Most people dont buy cars as investments, but if you look only at depreciation values, yeah, it can be very disheartening.
It's also possible to get better deals on new cars than used cars, especially if you factor in dealer incentives and lower interest rates on the loans (for people that finance).
Besides, someone has to buy new, so there can be a used car market.

Well, if the dealership buys and it just sits on the lot for several months...
They'll still try to sell it as new, but eventually they'll give up and sell at %80.

I bought my car new so that I wouldn't have to worry about maintenance problems. And I wanted the new car smell.

How about a good compromise? Buy a car that's one year old. You save a lot of money and still have a long time before maintainance and repairs become a question.

Base $24K that's a hell of a lot lower then I was thinking when you originally posted.
Of course here in FL it probably would be considerably more.

Hi John,
That's a pretty cool-looking car, if you're into great-black sharks, orcas; I would name that model the "Ominousville," or, maybe, the "Thanatostang."
But, while it appears the two headlights, so close together to the center of long axis of the car would undoubtedly be helpful in siting-in your pedestrian, or animal targets, out in the roadway: wouldn't there be some danger to you in not having illumination out to to the sides of the car, as most headlights provide ?
Disabled people in motorized wheel-chairs often ride very close to the side of the road, and you could miss some first class targets without that side illumination, I think.

The lights in the center are driving lights. The headlights are further outboard. (I did mention that it was a sucky picture. )
