I've always heard it referred to as the Joel Test Smile | :)

I think a score of 11 is a necessary, but not sufficient, criteria for me choosing to spend my time with a company. These ideas have been around for at least 11 years - there is no excuse nowadays to score less.

The one exception applies to very small outfits - in these cases the role of tester is often shared among the stakeholders and is not a dedicated person.

If I had to pick one as most important, I would choose #9: using the best tools money can buy. If an employer wants me to work with one hand tied behind my back, then I'm obviously not charging enough!
