I can see that. I mean, unless it's used to solve a problem or get a sound you are looking for in particular out of a guitar, it can end up in your pile of lesser effects pedals / novelty sound devices.
I think most of the sounds it can provide are replicated by synths these days.
Have you ever shocked yourself with the thing?

Unless they're a 10CC cover band.

I recommend using a compressor and a vibrato technique while playing. I'd be concerned that the EBow's electromagnet could eventually damage my pickups.

I had one of these[^] fitted a couple of years ago as a test to a throwaway guitar I had. It was a complete disaster - I'd recommend avoiding like the plague.

Pete, thanks a ton for this advice! I was highly considering one, with some minor reservations, but now I definitely won't.

LOVE the eBow! LOVE LOVE LOVE the eBow!!
Seriously, you can do some incredible stuff with it. The best use, and most common, is playing "backwards" solos (think Hendrix - Are You Experienced or The Beatles).

Do you have one? Have tried multiple ones?

Just the one, had it for years. My guitar playing partner has one too so we sometimes do some really cool stuff on dual solos.

Wow, do you guys ever record that? Has to be pretty cool.

We do, actually, although no video yet, I should probably start doing that. I have a couple of rehearsals' worth of stuff to cut down and upload. We do a lot of Holdsworth/Dimeola type of stuff, pretty fun. As some other posts on this thread have alluded to (and you yourself), there's definitely a time and a place for gear like the eBow. Same thing for a lot of specialized effects, like harmonizers and ring modulators, both of which I also use. But if you're looking to stretch into some new areas, get some new sounds, this thing is pretty good for that. I don't use it much but love when I do

We know, it was posted about three threads down.

Chris did not post a link to the story. Unofficial Lounge rules dictate that anything without a link can be reposted as a link. And anything without a news icon can be reposted with a news icon. It's a very formal procedure, you see. What we need to do is get rid of these pre-posts.

Quite right, although when I posted I don't think it was on the internet so hadn't actually happened yet.

When I read that, my brain translated it into"news that the world is shutting down."

Oh! we are... so you should hurry up if you don't want to be left alone in the middle of the dark...
