Did you have a nice bit of breast? Or was it a fine bit of thigh?
Did you enjoy your stuffing?
I know you enjoy tackling a large portion of meat and two veg.

On the counter side, why would somebody come back when all there is left are threads they don't want to read? How long before they don't come back? Take a look at the roll call of regulars who have stopped visiting to see what happens. Anyway, I've no doubt that people will be along shortly to call me arrogant or sanctimonious for daring to suggest that not every post that's been in the lounge lately is edifying.

A person who finds there are no threads left that they would like to read, won't come back, that is true. This was not aimed at you specifically Pete. I don't want you to leave. But to be honest I don't have many earnest serious threads in me, so if it all has to be earnest and serious then that's people like me out.
Sadly I have no idea which regulars have left but if people have left that is a shame.
I personally like the idea that anyone can comment about anything.
My thoughts were about accepting the difference in others, and letting those others be different.
I think I'm just a daft hippy who's drunk too much wine!
Don't go Pete, it wouldn't be the same with out you!

Absolutely nothing. I have been advocating that as often as these spitting contests erupt.

You're naively optimistic.

It's Sunday afternoon here. I've just woken up from an unexpected nap (I fell asleep trying to put my 9 month old to sleep). I have woken with an absolutely killer headache. I've taken a hydrocodone and am drinking rum. I should be relaxed and stress free soon.
Don't blame me. I voted for Chuck Norris.

A good subject line would be a great first step.
However some people seem to think things like "Oh no!!!" are descriptive enough...

Basically there is nothing wrong with that but did you notice after all the pissing and moaning he didn't
submit any cricket posts. So take on it is he just wanted to stir the pot.
But on another note do we need a blow-by-blow of a cricket match. It's televised if we are
interested we'd be watching it!

Agreed, and I like cricket.
I think a comment at the end saying who won and any notable event would be fine, but, as you say, not a ball by ball commentary.

The problem is, the default view is normal, which I like, and extremely long threads become difficult to ignore since it may take a few clicks of next to pass. Maybe there should be a limit to the number of replies per thread?

THIS would be IMHO bad - if I'm late (just like now) I couldn't have my say ...

People just inherently like to complain.
"One man's wage rise is another man's price increase." - Harold Wilson
"Fireproof doesn't mean the fire will never come. It means when the fire comes that you will be able to withstand it." - Michael Simmons
"Some people are making such thorough preparation for rainy days that they aren't enjoying today's sunshine." - William Feather

The problem here is I guess not the types of threads, but excess of particular types. Have you seen GIT lately, there are thousands of posts about cricket only. That's what people are worried about. A post or two for single day on particular topic is fine, but excess should be avoided.

The first sentence in the official description of the Lounge pretty much sums it up: "The Lounge is a place where you can discuss anything that takes your fancy." Apart from the kid sister rule, flaming, abusive conduct and ad caveats, I'd venture anything's fair game.

You have summed up my thoughts brilliantly, your first paragraph is just how I feel (glad I'm not alone).
What's more Ravi, we have the same 'disclaimers'. Except maybe 3, I think I probably am a total ham!
