The VB coders who think they are bright appear to be dim in the C# forums (kinda like turning on a flashlight during a sunny day).

Yeah, well the presence of braces, brackets, *and* parentheses is pretty intimidating!

At the price, when you move, you have to remember to take all your light bulbs with you.

I did that when I put fluorescents in a rental house. The bulbs would last 3 times longer than any of the tenants.

I'm mostly on 9W bulbs at home, haven't really noticed any difference personally but think I've read some people get headaches etc with the newer ones.

I'm all for it as long as the color is right. Some of the LEDs just aren't the right color. They give me a headache. LEDs should be dimmable however, unlike the CFs.

Me too. I think that with some (e.g. cheap strings of them for Christmas holiday decorations) the alternating current makes them blink very quickly and it makes me dizzy. I hope that proper ones have a converter of some sort to make them steady.
And, yeah, the color isn't right.

Ummmm....they make dimmable CFL bulbs.
Don't blame me. I voted for Chuck Norris.

Did not know that! It's been a while since I've bought them since they're all still working. In fact the only CF's I've replace are due to them being physically broken (outside lamps).

Incandescent bulbs already are endangered. Australia has already banned them effective starting this year. The US has a ban starting in 2012. We've switched almost all of our incandescents to CFLs. For the most part they've worked OK. I've had a few that didn't last a month. They went dim really quick. They'd still come on, but they were REALLY dim, like blacklights but not as cool.

They are already here (for those who can afford them)

(they are dimmable, and you can change the color temperature from incandescent to daylight)
They keep comparing the things to incandescent lamps, but compact fluorescent lamps are much cheaper and don't consume that much more electricity.

They may be the future for GEC, but they're the past for the real world. I've been using them for years.

I just wanted to say thanks for the ebook giveaway. I really enjoyed Guardians of Xen[^] and am definitely looking forward to the sequel.

Glad you liked it!
The sequel is already released, just not on SmashWords yet. There's a PDF version available from my publisher if that format works for you. (See the link in my sig)

Yeah, I probably should have said I'm looking forward to reading the sequel. I just haven't ordered it yet, heh.
Thanks for the heads up on the PDF version. I have a ton of books from SitePoint and Baen in PDF.

It’s next in my to-read list, after I finish the “The Lost Fleet” saga/two more books to go/.

Is the latest book out in that one yet? I read the first N around Christmas, and noted that there was another one out soonish.
