Nothing of particular technical interest here - a simple snap with an Olympus digital point 'n shoot.
Nonetheless, a shot of the front of the house this morning - drift in front of the house[^]. Wind is down to about 30 mph and the temps are supposed to hit 50F, the county plows have been through, so all we need to do is dig through the drifts on the driveway and we should be able to get into town today.

Yup. There's no cable tv or digital phone here. Other than dial-up on old-fashioned copper, it's the only method available.

Beautiful, albeit not really a standard fall shot

Nice pics, Stuart. Are you sure both pics were shot at f/1.4 though? The depth of field indicates a smaller aperture.

Just double-checked the EXIF info - they were f/1.4. Remember, DoF is a function of aperture, focal length and focus distance.
Here's one[^] where you can certainly see the tiny DoF an f/1.4 can give (it's actually f/1.6, but that's not far off)! Look at the blur in the woodgrain.

Here in Bournemouth it's a little hard to distinguish "fall" from late summer at the momnet, but I did take this rather appropriate image one a couple of days ago:

Happy Samhain!
My sister rang me up and said she is going to a Halloween Party tonight.
I wished her a good time, and hoped she would enjoy it.
she then said, "I want to be really scary, so could I borrow your face?"
Ho, Ho, bloody Ho!
I asked her if she just rang up to crack that gag, and yes, she did.
Bitch!
So I will pass it onb for others to use.

To which a correct retort would be; "with your face, why would you need to?"

Okay, last night we got some hot wings from Buffalo Wild Wings, and when asked what sauce level we wanted, I told them to give us the hottest they have - the girl said that would be Blazin' (their hottest sauce) and added that it is very hot. Bah - I thought with scorn, how hot could it be after all!
Well I was wrong! I had to keep munching sugar candy, and sip orange juice (the beer didn't do at all), and also wash my mouth after every 2 wings. I was crying half the time too - it was that hot. But it was wonderful! Really wonderful. I just don't know how much damage it did to my intestines and stomach linings though.
Advice to anyone trying this out : Keep sugar ready, and take deep breaths after every bite, else you WILL throw up.

I did that some time ago, pretending it wasn't a problem, not in front of other men!
Piri Piri chicken with the VVVHot sauce.
Had to get a pint of chocolate milkshake to continue living!

Well we took a take-out, so no one saw my distress except my wife and son.

Yeah I ended up swallowing a large scoop of cherry ice-cream before I felt it was safe to go to sleep.

I had a plate of those once before going out to play some pool. I think I was able to make it through 2 and a half before I said it's just not worth it. Man I want to go back and try my luck again.

The trick is not to rush it. If you take it slow, and wash down with cold juice/milk or something like that you can make it up to a dozen wings or so.

The trick is to just blaze through it before your body figures out what's going on. The more wings you're stuffing down, the less you're breathing; the less you breathe, the less it burns.

That's the way I like to do it too. I was lured into a false sense of security by how easy it was for the heat one step down. It was still really good though...the 2 that I ate.

I did something similar once when over the pond, had Beef O'Brady's "Nuclear" level buffalo wings, damn they were hot, but very tasty!

I like my food to be very hot (I add chilly sauce to the Szechwan fried rice that has my friends reaching for the water) but recently I've been trying to cut back.
Too many people have been drumming it into me that it's not good in the long term, and I can kinda see it for myself - I have trouble the following day.
But eating hot, spicy food has never been a problem for me.
Cheers,
Vikram. (Cracked not one CCC, but two!)

Same with me - I lavishly add hot tabasco sauce to fried rice too
And I nearly always eat my kerala meals with *really* hot mallu pickles. In my mom's side of the family we just love hot pickles, hot chillies, peppers etc.
But this hot sauce last night was something else - believe me!

Aah, tabasco sauce. I couldn't eat nearly anything at the office canteen in England unless I added tabasco sauce.
Cheers,
Vikram. (Cracked not one CCC, but two!)
