Bad thing. I hate them as well. Fortunately, in my office, the boss is the first to watch videos and stuff, so we are all allowed.

Exactly at 19.388684°N, 99.177575°W. Just let me know a day before you arrive so I can buy enough cold beers.

Looks like they copied the Mikontalo Lights[^] idea.
Many years ago I lived at pixel (6,2) of the Mikontalo Tetris screen.

Google is down here (as is Gmail). For a while I was kinda wondering what to do - I mean the thought of using an alternate search website didn't even occur to me for a short while
Eventually I used Yahoo - only to find that Smitha had just done that too on finding Google down!
Yahoo's not so bad. Though when Google's back, I am going back to Google!

Strange! How come Google is down in your location?
btw, I think GMail is down for a few minutes last week.. I think I lost a few mails in Inbox and SendItems.. I'm sure that I lost those mails becuase there was a few mails that I sent to my client.. Now, I can't find those mails anywhere.. It's really bad..

Don't know what happened - this is a first. Comcast is the ISP (Atlanta). Any other Atlanta/Comcast folks out here tonight?

I've been using AltaVista as my start page lately in an attempt to reduce my Google usage. Yahoo's start page is too tabloid, all that celebrity crap and news that you don't want to know

Wow - that's so early-90s!
I didn't even know they were still on. And yeah, far simpler UI compared to Yahoo. Search results are not great though.

Agreed, search results aren't as good but it gets you there. I DID always use AltaVista in the 90's...Google just seemed to come out of nowhere and everyone magically started using it exclusively.
Anyway, Google is never going to have any real competition unless we make an effort to use other search engines...er, that's my thinking, anyway
...I was about to say that MSN was even worse than Yahoo but I just looked at Microsoft's new Live Search[^] ...not bad...gonna try it for a while...make Steve Ballmer happy

Yeah Live's search results are pretty good - their UI is not so nice though.

Yeah...I just went into the 'Options' part...wanted to see if I could change that depressing sea green colour...no options for changing colours...gonna have to give them some feedback....

Didn't you know? Corrosion Green is the new black. Just look at Vista's boot up - you've got the nice, soothing blue that everyone knows from research is a feel good color, and over the top of it you've got this green slime dripping down over it.
I don't know what kind of medication these guys are on, but I'm sure glad it wasn't available in the 70s.

You got that totally right...kinda makes me want to go drown myself or something

Solidarity, brother. I'm glad it's not just me!

I wonder if we could make a case?...assault with a depressing colour?

Isn't that why Kurt Cobain blew his head off with a shotgun? He's obviously the poster boy for these guys...

LOL! That's terrible though...poor Kurt.
The whole 'Live' thing needs a little coordination...I've just been surfing through it...different colours everywhere, mismatched styles and they really need to lay off the subliminal pushing of Vista and let it be it's own thing.
I guess now that they've given up on Yahoo, they'll have to jolly well do it all themselves
It's not bad though...it could be something if they put in the effort and be patient with it.

Yeah, I know. I'm a baaaaaad boy...
The problem with Microsoft isn't a lack of talent. They've got a lot of great techies over there. Unfortunately, just as it is in so many other places, the techies who could really make it rock are the people with the least amount of power to make a difference.
Microsoft has grown so huge they just have staggering levels of bureaucracy in place that make it almost impossible to get anything done, let alone come up with a new or creative angle on a product. Every POS bit of software that comes out of Redmond only sucks because it encountered Design by Committee.
I wish Bill or Steve could afford to hire me as a consultant and give me carte blanche. I'd fire about 50% of their people, all middle managers. It would slash millions, even billions from their budget and improve their quality and responsiveness in ways they could only fantasize about today.
But alas, I just don't think they're willing to spend the money.

Yeah...I've seen the same thing in other companies. Too many layers of 'management'...if you can call it that. Out of control meeting culture and everyone wears a mask and is afraid to show any emotion, in case the Body Snatchers from Human Resources gets them.
