I tell you what, I love SnagIt because its editor gets it right when it comes to annotating a screenshot after capture. Plus, for me, I can drag and drop out of the preview window into an email without saving the picture for those quick notes. Saves me clutter in my saved folders. The video capture is pretty nice as well. As for free software, a lot of other users where I work have/had PrintKey 2000[^] installed. Not sure how up to date it is.

Windows Key + Shift Key + S key
Use mouse to highlight what you want to copy, then paste into Paint.
Free.

Greenshot is good but lately I've just been using the built in screenshot capabilities of Windows 10 or 11.
For creating animated GIFs I use ScreenToGif.

For years, I am using simply the good old (Shift)PrintScreen function that exists since the days of DOS and the crop the image if needed in IrfanView. Never bothered with any special "screenshot software"...
|
