I got political here, even though I didn't mean to going in. I will no longer be responding on the Bomb Cyclone thread.
I'm posting this top level, because there were several people involved, and the apology is a general one directed at the forum.
 I never meant to go there.

Well, to put things into perspective, I was part of the straw that broke the camel's back (Soapbox). I got banned for 2 weeks, and the Soapbox was removed permanently.
I don't think you are going to get banned, and I don't think Chris will remove the Lounge.

Some of us liked the Soapbox too much. I am proud to say, I remember the CP Soapbox.
I see CP as one of the original sites that had up and down voting for threads; I value the peer pressure approach, more than the other approaches. I tried tweeting at Elon to make down voting a thing, but he is too worried about Tesla and paying for Twitter now.

Speaking of down voting gamedev.net had that in the early days. Unlike CP downvoting which has no long term effects, GD.net downvoting had an effect on user rating. As result of comments made in various threads some users ended up having negative user rating. Because of the resulting stigma downvoting was dropped.
(I’m aware CP does have an user general rating too but the CP General rating computation formula is so complicated that upvotes and downvotes are probably not even noticeable in the final figure)

I was in bed watching "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" with my wife.
I rolled over and asked her 'Do you want to have some fun?'
She looked me in the eye and quickly responded with a resounding "No".
I proceeded to ask her, 'Is that your final answer?'
... Without hesitation she replied, 'Yes..'
I then said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend."

The technology underlying the cloud must be engineered, but the application which is supported by the cloud is not. Though certainly the application developer should still be very diligent about understanding the implications of working on such a surface.

you want to be a cloud developer, fine. There is no such thing as a cloud "engineer". I interviewed people claiming they were a software engineer, and all they had done was html.

There are software engineers. They aren't the best programmers because the best software developers use a combination of engineering thinking and creative thought to create beautiful and functional software solutions. Someone who uses only HTML is neither.

Don't misunderstand me, I don't want to be a cloud developer -- though my boss wants me to be.
Yes, pretty much anyone (though certainly not everyone) claiming to be a "software engineer" is actually an inexperienced software developer with delusions of grandeur.

Most software 'engineers' I've met aren't. It's mostly wannabe hype. An Engineer has a high level of academic training, upholds professional standards both personal and technical, and has a disciplined approach. It takes a long time to become an Engineer.
Being able to scribble code and know what TDD, DRY and SOLID mean don't make you an Engineer, just as in other fields being able to design a steel beam or fix a car or a washing machine don't make you an Engineer.
