Agreed. We backup Virtual servers with Veeam, one is over 100GB. Script calls robocopy to copy the backups to removable for safekeeping and sends email with results of the backup, robocopy makes a nice log to attach to the email.

I was all excited. I thought you were talking about picking up an old NeXT Computer - Wikipedia[^]

That's also what I thought. But I can't say that I got excited about it. To each his own.

I'm a nerd for certain retro tech I never got to play with. The NeXT is one of them. I also wouldn't mind tinkering with an Apple Lisa for a day, just to play with it.

That's what I was thinking also.
I remember when it came out, it was so cool...except the price tag! (And of course the Apple marketing strategy)

I thought the same and was wondering what one could do with a computer that is over 25 years old and is unsupported.

Actually given the way it was built, it probably wouldn't be entirely out of hand to get linux running on it.

I don't recommend copying apps or settings. I've run into far too many situations where there was registry corruption and this just copied the registry corruption over to the new machine.

A fresh install is best of course, but in some situations (missing install media etc.) it might be an option.

The Original Projected Delivery date was this coming Monday
And so,,,,
I thought I was being shrewd, prudent, and diligent; preparing for this, several days ahead.
At 4:28 a.m. today, the box was on the truck.
It's currently somewhere here in town, and will be here today.
So now
Duh
Gotta make time
Gotta make space
Don't got neither

Hi,
( There used to be an intelligent "copy as needed" command line tool in DOS 3.1 ?? Win 3.?? but it was too useful and got dropped. )
Clonezilla for "dup this".
FreeFileSync for "compare this tree to that" and mirror them, update that one, select changes... Almost works as I'd like.
gparted ( usually running from system rescue disk, bootable CD ) to copy, resize... partitions.
I've usually used Clonezilla copying to a USB connected drive. Haven't had a problem there.
( Make _sure_ you know which drive is which. cloning from one WD 2 TB to a second WD 2TB is dangerous. It will show drive model, and I _think_ serial #, but you are basically running dd with training wheels. NO forgiveness. )
Have fun,
dave
( who _still_ hasn't gotten the time to install the new 4 TB )

There are 13 left braces and only 12 balancing right braces.
So the message is that there is a missing brace is correct.
Add another right brace to the bottom or carefully audit the code for the missing brace.

Hay 13 llaves izquierdas y solo 12 llaves derechas de equilibrio.
Entonces, el mensaje es que falta una llave, es correcto.
Agregue otra llave derecha en la parte inferior o audite cuidadosamente el código en busca de la llave que falta.

I follow discussions of Win11 here and on other forums, and so far I'm not seeing any pressing need to switch. I see drawbacks and hassles, but no counter-balancing benefits that push me to switch.
What are the real benefits of Win11 over Win10?

My work laptop is overdue for replacement, and I've been added to the "Win11 test group" which will push me to the top of the replacement list, so I'll have an "opportunity" to test Win11 by late summer.

In the long term, support for Win 10 will cease in three years time (October 2025) ... so you will need to switch by then or lose security updates.
Other than that, I see no pressing reason (and I'm using Win 11 on both my desktop and Surface) ... it's a bit "meah", unlike the Win 7 / Win 8 changes.
Not a lot has improved from a user perspective, and some things have gone backwards.

OriginalGriff wrote: In the long term, support for Win 10 will cease in three years time (October 2025) ... so you will need to switch by then or lose security updates. According to MS, Win10 Enterprise LTSC 2019, which was released on 11/13/2018, has a mainstream end on 01/09/2024, and an extended end date of 01/09/2029.
Given the hardware limitations, I'll be surprised if MS doesn't bend a bit on the end date for Win10, at least for Enterprise customers.
I expect to replace my laptop sometime in the next 3.5 years, and by then MS will have worked out the defects in Win11, and/or third parties will have replacements available, e.g., I've been using Classic Shell to replace the Win10 menu. At this time, I'm not concerned.
