I have seen terrible accidents happen to field cooks who wanted to serve soup for lunch. Rumor has it that some of them ended up on a stick, slowly rotating over a fire.

But soup is good: hot, tasty, filling, easy to eat (even quickly) and if served with good bread ... warm comfort food that'll keep you going.

The Maître de Cuisine usually delegates serving his creation to some poor private, especially when complaints are expected. Just look into the pot and say something like this:
"What's that? Did he wash his feet in there? Again?"
It usually takes less than five seconds for the cook to pop up and receive your praise.
