Today's logo is a snow scene with alternate text of "Happy Winter 2019!". So does Google think that mentioning the C word will offend people?

Well I'm offended!
Not by anything in particular, I'm just feeling generally offended by pretty much everything.

In that case then I'm offended that you feel offended.

That's probably offencist, and likely illegal.

I think it is about the 22th of December as the first day of the winter and not about the upcoming Christmas...
(Google has the capability to show different Google-Doodle to different people, for instance only I see 'Happy Birthday' on my birthday, and only in Israel we see Hanukkah, me think)

No no no no no - it's the first day of summer! Days are getting longer now!

[pedant mode]Well ... no. A sidereal day is ~ 23H 56M 4S - hence leap years - but even if you take the "generally accepted" day of "24 hours" the "real day" is different because the earth's rotation is slowing - most are around 40ms longer than that.[/pedant mode]

No! I stand by my statement.
Yesterday solar transit at Greenwich was at 11h 57m 52.624s whereas today it was at 11h 58m 22.523s.
Thus today, noon to noon, is 29.899 seconds longer than yesterday.
If you want that in radians, then it's 3.1301611127 versus 3.134504411585 (just to 12 sig.figs.)
Like I said - the days are getting longer.

I am going to be very out of character and observe:
Why is it that it has become a "crusade" as to what words of cheer are given to who and when?
Isn't ing great to just get something positive once in a while? No additional cost or strings attached?
Risking soapbox level: The alleged "war-an-xmas" is just plain bogus. Always was. A political rallying cry to try to draw support with, for lack of concrete values, tapping into creating unwarranted offense. Like many things, repeat it often enough and it begins to take on the perception of truth. All I need to do is look at any street - pretty much anywhere in the US, and I can see that there's all the seasonal recognition you can ever want (and more). Except for those who insist that everyone believe as they do. That, by the way, has absolutely NEVER GONE WELL.
Bob's got a funny hat and is attempting to electrocute himself to some and expected to come down the chimneys bearing gifts to others.
Time we, at least on CP (and perhaps more clever than many others of our species), take the lead by no longer being duped. Who in their right mind would take offense at being wished a "Happy Holiday" . . . without some degree of brain-washing to convince them that "Good Will" is offensive!
"Everyone" has some reason to see this as a joyful season - why look for ways to ruin it?

I'm pretty sure that's because the 21st of December is the first day of winter and not the first day of Christmas
That said, I tell people "happy holidays!" because:
- It applies to everyone.
- I'm not a Christian myself.
- To me it's not just about Christmas, but a Happy New Year as well (which is also a holiday, or at least a day off work).
- They are holidays and people use "holidays" and "Christmas" interchangeably anyway (even the ones that don't make an issue out of Christmas).
A Dutch shop recently advertised with "Happy Holidays!" and a lot of people got butt hurt because they preferred the word "Christmas".
The shop explained that it meant all holidays in December (we have Sinterklaas on December fifth too, but that has become another political debate because of "Zwarte Piet").
Anyway, you can't say anything these days because people are whiny little bitches
