Flower Shop Owner: "This is the worst Mother's Day we've had in over 30 years."
BBC Reporter: "And why is that?"
What! To her credit, the flower shop owner answered without being sarcastic or patronising. I'm pretty sure my reply would have qualified for both.

To play the devil's advocate, a good reporter will not "fill in the blanks" from what someone said but will ask further questions to get the person to explain themselves.

The US one is in a month and a half, so when I first read it I wondered why would this Mother's Day be the worst (since we don't know what things will be like yet). Context matters and sometimes asking further questions is needed.

I watched the BBC programme yesterday afternoon and listened to the repeated messages about social isolation - keep you 2m gap. Quite right too.
But what else did I see? People behind the newscaster, in the newsroom having face to face chats.
Then we had a number of 2 and 3 way interviews from reporters who were all virtually touching the interviewees.
Then the PM, deputy CMO and Communities Secretary came and left (like every day) walking very close together.
Not sure that "Do as I say not as I do" is the correct approach here.
