Given that some people treat their cats as gods, isn't Rule 4 being violated?

Only some commie bastard would not agree with you, right? Actually, your post violates the rules. There are ethnic groups active today whose ancestors treated cats as representatives on Earth of deities of one sort or another. On that basis, your post can be considered political and therefore inappropriate for the Lounge.

I would think that a discussion of whether the rules apply to a topic cannot be against the rules.
In any case, your analogy is false. There are identifiable ethnic groups whose ancestors practiced Zoroastrianism; pointing out that discussions of Zoroastrianism are forbidden is hardly against the rules.

Reminds me of the summer camp by the coast I went to when I was a kid. After every meal we would take our leftovers to the bay and toss them to the dolphins.
