I need a pdf editor that allows me to insert pages into a pdf at any point. In the past I have used pdf printers like PrimpPDF and NitroPDF but when you print to them it is slow and also you can only append to the end, you can't insert at a specific point.
That's about all I need, to be able to insert pages at a specific point of an existing pdf. I used the trial version of PDFEscape and it was great. Very fast, very nice, but they don't have a one time purchase (that I could find) but instead have a monthly fee and I don't want to do that.
I don't even need to edit the pdf using form tools or anything. Just want to be able to combine pdfs into a single one with ease.

I use Corel PDF Fusion, but it's not free (though they do a free trial version)
IIRC, it came free with one version or other of Paintshop Pro which is why I have it ...

I just timed it: 2.85 seconds (including loading a 1.7MB PDF from my NAS).
That's on a 4GB RAM, 1TB SSD, dual core machine - so not exactly state of the art.
Yeah they are still going, still adding bugs and making software harder to use... 
Problem is, Paintshop Pro was soooooo damn good when it was JASC that owned it that I've kept with it - even Corelized it's way better than GIMP and immensely cheaper than Photoshop.

Pretty much. It didn't work too well under Win 7 - Aero turned off when you ran PaintShop Pro which made cleaning screenshots for manuals a PITA - which is why I started the slow transition to the Corel version.
If you don't have an SSD, get one! It's the biggest improvement you can make to a PC, everything works faster and loads quickly, so you tend to close apps when you are finished with them, and that frees up RAM - which makes apps run even faster!

I searched for it and found nothing reliable. We have it in our shared folders but the source is unknown!

I've not used it but I am aware of FoxIt PhantomPDF. I believe SodaPDF will also do what you want and can be purchased.

Just out of curiosity: How many calories does a standard size rat contain? 
And considering the weight difference, what is the wiser choice if you want to slim down? Rats or roaches?
