I had to walk for about 100 meters in the CBD, and 12 deg celcius was feeling like -10 with the antarctic winds, and it's going to get worse and be that for a couple of months before it would get any better.

Here in Georgia we hit that no problem and add in 80% humidity. When it gets to 100 I call that "Smack you in the face hot" because that's what happens when you step outside.

Well they can't keep me from reminding things, nor my girlfriend. I know the average prices of the stuff I buy in the 10 or so stores I usually do my groceries in.
And for the tech stuff I make thorough researches long before even approaching a store - I got burned more times than what I would like to admit so now I'm careful.

The usual method would be a cell phone jammer, but it is illegal (at least in US) and then there becomes the liability issue if something should happen.
Option number 2 would be to mimic a cell phone tower, with something like a femtocell. Or the notorious Stinger used by covert law enforcement agencies.

Then maybe we should use Option 2 (femtocells) and take a lesson from Amazon playbook; we'll connect their cells to the soundtrack of the movie, and if they text we can reply with subtitles.

I see a couple or three of options:
- Be an educated consumer (i.e, not an impulse buyer)
- Shop elsewhere
- Shop at Amazon because their prices are SO LOW
The stores send their advertisements along with newspapers and such. All you need to do is sit back and look at them.

I have a flip-phone . . . when I walk around the supermarket it's in my pocket.
Instead, I while away the time looking where I'm going and buying what I came for.

I'm really not surprised at this to be honest.
A few years ago Walmart was installing the fancy Bosch cameras and software packages for facial recognition via social media matching, and using this to create customer profiles etc. The revelation of this never really went anywhere, just made some people look like paranoia freaks and dismissed as it's a public place and you don't have privacy in public.
As a developer, I see opportunities for price comparison apps... But they probably will just block those via their technology. Maybe I should just use the VPN to my house.
People (particularly my fellow Americans) are so programmed for instant satisfaction that they don't plan ahead, which leads to impulse buying and if they do hesitate they believe the first thing when they browse the net. Control the net and you control those people.
