1. The lounge is for the CodeProject community to discuss things of interest to the community, and as a place for the whole community to participate. It is, first and foremost, a respectful meeting and discussion area for those wishing to discuss the life of a Software developer.
The #1 rule is: Be respectful of others, of the site, and of the community as a whole.
2. Technical discussions are welcome, but if you need specific programming question answered please use Quick Answers[^], or to discussion your programming problem in depth use the programming forums[^]. We encourage technical discussion, but this is a general discussion forum, not a programming Q&A forum. Posts will be moved or deleted if they fit better elsewhere.
3. No sys-admin, networking, "how do I setup XYZ" questions. For those use the SysAdmin[^] or Hardware and Devices[^] forums.
4. No politics (including enviro-politics[^]), no sex, no religion. This is a community for software development. There are plenty of other sites that are far more appropriate for these discussions.
5. Nothing Not Safe For Work, nothing you would not want your wife/husband, your girlfriend/boyfriend, your mother or your kid sister seeing on your screen.
6. Any personal attacks, any spam, any advertising, any trolling, or any abuse of the rules will result in your account being removed.
7. Not everyone's first language is English. Be understanding.
Please respect the community and respect each other. We are of many cultures so remember that. Don't assume others understand you are joking, don't belittle anyone for taking offense or being thin skinned.
We are a community for software developers. Leave the egos at the door.
cheers,
Chris Maunder

Got home from a meeting last night OK. Went to bed as usual. Not a wink of sleep, tossing and turning, feverish/chilled, screaming headache if I moved. Decided about midnight that I'd caught the flu (haven't had this year's vacc yet), probably at the fire management exercise of the last couple of days. 40+ people from all over the state in close proximity...
Did a RAT (Rapid Antigen Test, aka Lateral Flow and other names) this morning.
Yep, COVID. In the queue for a phone consult to get antivirals (which are very effective by all accounts). So far my life partner of 53 years tests negative. So far...

Hope it's a mild case.
In my experience, Herself showed positive (and symptoms) two days before I did: i.e. she got it, gave it to me, and I showed symptoms and positive 2 days later. Hopefully, she won't get it, but if you have symptoms she has been exposed.

Thanks. Just got myself on the outside of some food and the first dose of antivirals.
Glad they are subsidised. Package says full cost > $1k.

Got an ebay order delivered today and when I opened the box it had yellow/aged newspaper around the chips.
Carefully unraveled the newspaper and it was dated Nov. 24, 1963 and the headline was about Pres. Kennedy assassination. Who would keep newspaper that long and if so, and in this case a memorable date who would use it as wrapping?

Someone who hoarded the papers in '63 thinking that someday they would be worth something, only to find out 60 years later that 1000's of people did the same thing, and now the papers are worth as much as the packing peanuts they are now replacing?

If I were you, I would gather all the papers and see if you can assemble a complete edition. Something like this happened to me a LONG time ago. I worked in a Chinese restaurant and they got a shipment of fortune cookies from a place in San Francisco. I noticed the stuffing paper was from a Black Panther newspaper. I gathered all the papers and I was able to assemble a complete issue of it. This was in the late 1970s and it had morphed into a charitable organization so there was nothing militant in it at all but it was interesting to read.

Actually, I have that newspaper right behind me in a box I found at my Mom's place before she died. L.A. Times, I believe. I have no idea what to do with it. I'd thought to donate it to a school to help with teaching history, but since they no longer teach history, what's the point.

Our cat Oreo gave birth to two kittens on 20th April. Even today, nearly 50 days after birth, these two kittens are suckling on their mother.
Of course we're feeding the mother cat well, but is there any optimal time when these kittens should be separated from their mother cat? Surely the mother cat cannot supply her milk indefinitely, isn't it?

there a variety of opinions about this; the mother's teats may not dry up for 6 to 8 weeks. weaning should be a natural response by the mother. [^]
