it's like a Ferrari! It's the ultimate car!
But you don't use to shop grocery at your local super market, the boot is too small!!
Or to fight raptor, you might damage it!

Most probably I don't get the point, but this is a question of my weak english.
For me: Ribbon != Ferrari

It was sarcasm, meant to illustrate each tool is only good when used for what it has been designed for!
Ribbon is great when your app has zillion of toolbars. In fact I personally hate toolbars. And I do love the Ribbon in Office 2013!

Ribbon is the ultimate GUI if I believe in MS
Did you dig this up from material from 2007?

No dear it was Office 2013 +-

Group A at Microsoft really needs to talk to Group B.

What Microsoft says and what I say are two very different things. Who you gonna believe?

When did 'ultimate' become synonymous with 'best'. Reaching the ultimate point in a journey does not mean that you haven't taken a wrong turn and driven up a narrow lane straight into a river (a standard journey using satnav, in other words!)

I think the ribbon definitely has its place. I've been using it more for desktop applications that have 20-30 main functions that are used regularly. I find it works well for fairly intuitive applications for which I want to provide a minimum of documentation or training.
Used in applications like Word or Excel it is great at exposing the functionality that 90% of people use. For power users it can be maddening. When I'm writing a technical manual, it is frustrating to switch between rows of styles and different tabs.
Context sensitivity helps with this, and I could see visual studio working ok for many developers with a ribbon, but there are so many available functions that often need to be used one after another from different categories, that the current old-school toolbar may work better.

My car
I am sat on the A31 between Farnham and Guildford with what appears to be a blown water pump.
The family was with me but decided to walk to the train a mile away.
Sad, sober and steaming.

The same but I'm down at Farnham.
We are members at the hotel's health club and may have stopped there for lunch.
Now I'm waiting for the tow-truck.

Surely all the pubs in Farnham can't have closed down? What about the cafés in Lion & Lamb Yard? The one on the right sells alcohol IIRC.
