Sander Rossel wrote: Google's decision to not support synching on Windows Phone
I have a windows phone and it syncs just fine.
Email is a Gmail account and I also use the Google calender without any issues.
It is a windows 7.5 phone but if it works on that it should work on a 8.1 / 10 (if that's the name) as well no?

Google decided to stop supporting Windows Sync (or whatever it's called) last year.
I have Windows 7.8 (I believe) and my Gmail account that I set up about two years ago worked without any problems. It synced mail as soon as I got it, it would delete mails on the server if I deleted them on my phone, it would mark mails as read when I read them, etc. I set up a new account and it does none of that... It doesn't sync contacts at all and the best I can do with email is to check once every 15 mins, I receive sent mail in my inbox, when I delete them on my phone it doesn't delete them on the server etc. I don't use a calendar, but I know that won't sync either.
I believe it would work on Windows 8.1 and probably also on 10, but I don't think Windows will catch up (any time soon) with the amount of apps that are available for Android any time soon.
iPhone would've been a good go too if it weren't made and priced by Apple

Ah you mean that, yeah I noticed that as well but I guess it doesn't really bother me that much.
It does sync (almost) instantly with my surface rt tho.

If you like the big screens then the Note 4 is nice. I upgraded from a note 1

this kind of stuff does my head in as well but I bit the bullet and ordered a upgrade contract with a sony xperia Z3 yesterday
my decision was based on battery life, camera quality, dust/water proof and commitment from sony to upgrade to Lollipop next year (I was so pissed upset at HTC that they never updated my HD2 from windows 6.5) oh and the fact that the Z3 apparently MAKES PHONE CALLS as well. Who knew you could do that away from the house
of course it may all turn out to be pies in the sky but at least I am happy waiting for it to arrive
Now all I need is for the indoors signal where I live to be upgraded past intermittent GPRS and I will be able to use it as well

Try the Motorola G 2nd generation. 5 inch screen, dual sims and you can add an micro SD card up to 32Gb. All for £144 quid from Amazon in the UK.

Why would I want dual sim?

It's camera is only 5 megapixel. I want at least 8. So that's a no

What do you expect for 142 quid! It's a bargain. Anyway, let's get real about this, if the phone doesn't have decent optics, it don't matter squat how many pixels it's got, it'll still produce a crap image. How you can tell whether a phone has good optics? - now there's a question - wish I knew!

I somehow assume that if a phone has many megapixels it can produce good photo's.
One thing is for sure, if the camera sucks the pictures will suck

Found it on a Dutch compare website... Perhaps I read it wrong?
Anyway, I went for the Samsung Galaxy S4. A bit more expensive than I had in mind, but it's a nice phone

I would second the OnePlus One
Had mine a few months, outperforms most other flagship phones for less than 1/2 the price.
Was a bit hard to get hold of, not sure how easy now but worth the effort.

It seems a little... Alternative...
Probably not my thing. I want to make phone calls and I'm not even sure this thing can handle it, despite it's beautiful layout.

Why in the world would you even want to sync with an advertising company???

Really, do they advertise?
I haven't noticed since I have adblock on my PC and I never got an ad on my phone either.
All I know is they have the best search engine around (Bing isn't even close!), they have a pretty sweet free email service, they have a pretty good browser that does everything I expect from a browser and they are the biggest player in the mobile phone market.
Am I concerned about privacy? They're probably not as bad as Facebook (what I don't have)...
The alternative is Apple (iPhone, Safari, do they have a search engine and email service?), but I'm not an iDiot who buys mediocre overpriced stuff because it has some brand.
And then there's Microsoft, but as said I've had it with my Windows Phone, Bing and IE suck, I'm not sure they take my privacy any more serious than Google, and Outlook is pretty nice, but doesn't offer some of the features I like about Gmail.
Other tech giants like Facebook or Amazon don't offer phones, search engines, free email, a browser... At least not that I know of.
So yeah, I decided to just switch to Google...
To bad there isn't much in terms of alternatives.

I suggest you LG G2: good screen 5.2 inch (full HD), and good camera (13 megapixel)
Or LG G3, but it's expensive and the screen size is big: 5.5 inch (2560 x 1440 QHD)
