Could some one explain to me why northern cold countries seem to excel and as you go south to more "livable" climates the world goes to hell.
Case in point; southern EU vrs northern EU.
Doesn't have to be EU. Seems to be global phenomenon.
Latvia and potatoes... hmmmm

Seems to be reversed on the southern hemisphere. Maybe it's the temperature?

No, I think it's that they are all busy clinging to the ground in an attempt not to fall off - that's got to make it harder to work.

Shaggy_dog_story[^] - it's quite clever really, because both in its content and in its spirit - it is a shaggy dog story.

Three companies, Latvian, Estonian and Romanian get a deal from an US company.
"We discovered an alien blueprint of a super tank. Whoever can build it gets one billion."
One month later, Latvians get back.
- Guys, the blueprint are from a helicopter, not a tank.
- You are incompetents, you won't get paid.
Two months later, Estonians get back.
- Guys, the blueprint are really from a helicopter, this is not a tank.
- You idiots. No money for you.
Finally, after three months, Romanians returns with a perfect super tank.
- Congratulations! You got yourselves richer with a billion. But how did you get it? The other guys said is a helicopter.
- Well, we got a helicopter too, but we use a lot of rasps to get a tank.

If you find learning programming boring, then you need a different career.
If you succeed and become proficient an any programming language, that is just the start of "learning about programming" - you will (hopefully) do it for the whole of your working life.
For example, I have been "programming" since the late 1970's, and I'm still learning new things.
But then, the same is true of any task that requires cogitation rather than just brute force. Because if you stop learning - whatever you are doing - then you are at best stagnating, and at worst going backwards.
Learning programming is only boring if you can't be bothered to apply what you are supposed to learn. If you go "this is dull, I'll skip that" then it will be more boring later because you won't have a clue what is going on when things get complicated.

Seriously, that's pretty useful. It's not what I'd call a "major achievement" though...

How that can be boring! That's the part when things start to be interesting!

For you and I, yes - because we understand what it's based on.
But if you've skipped the early stuff it's really bad because you don't know what the heck is going on!
